Spiders!!! I'm under attack!
For about a week now, every morning when I open my door to let the dogs out, there are several very large, very creepy black spiders who have woven a huge web across the doorway. They just hang there, looking at me, waiting for me to cross the threshold so that they can land on my head and crawl down my neck. Everyday I spray them and sweep them and their web away and then the next morning, more have settled in.

Today I finally figured it out. I leave the outside light on at night which is right by the door. These smart little critters weave their web and sit and wait for the moths to come. Good eating. I going to leave the light off tonight and see what happens. Otherwise I'll let Will take care of them. Heh, heh, I know how much he loves spiders!

5. We have the same thing happen next to our porch light.
It's kinda fun (in a weird way) to watch the little bugs swarm to the light only to have a spider pounce on them...

6. THOSE are not the spiders you want to be concerned about
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 02:08 PM by amber dog democrat
unless you are arachniphobic.

I'm more inclined to disturb the web to make them build their webs elsewhere
they will learn to do that.

- but if I were Australian I'd be careful in the back garden if I lived in Sydny funnleweb habitat.
Watch for Brazilian wandering spiders in banana shipments too if you own a grocery.

and in Texas, the brown recluse and black widow, ( Loxoceles Reclusa & Lateroedectus mactans ) are not building webs in your front door, but be mindful
in undisturbed dark, dry areas all the same.

7. Ewwwwww Raven, hangy downs!
I love spiders but I hate this time of year when the hangy down spiders are all over the place. I am glad you know they are there because so often you don't then that damned web gets on you and you NEVER know where the spider is. Walk slowly and carry a broom.

8. Wanna borrow Evita - she kills spiders
it's her lame attempt to bring me presents knowing that there are no rats or moles in my apartment and bats come few and far between.

9. Gee, none of my animals will go near them!
The puppy will chase and eat flies and the cats have been bringing home baby moles these days. But spiders don't seem to be on the menu!

10. The spiders and their web might protect you from West Nile Virus!
Spiders eat mosquitos, among other bugs.

For some reason, spiders don't freak me out. I get little ones in my house and for the most part let them live. My cat has a different policy, however.

Centipedes are what I hate. I get them inside once in a while-they're almost as big as a small mouse. My cat loves to kill them more than she loves killing spiders, so I don't have to do it very often.

12. I like spiders too- they are hardworking and creative
Mine learn to weave their webs beyond where the door will break them. They catch the flying things before they get into my place.

The universe was created by Grandmother Spider, dontcha know?

14. I sometimes see spiders and webs in my bedroom...
Without my glasses, and I'm just falling asleep or just waking up, the cords for the lamp, cable, and blinds form webs -- the spiders just kind of show up. Sometimes, it's hordes of little ones; other times, it's one big one. Last night, it was one, the size of my fist.

Damn half-asleep night blindness.

16. Those are likely orb spiders
Which aren't aggressive or dangerous or anything. They aren't interested in you, they only eat insects. As you mentioned, your light is drawing massive numbers of insects. Spiders eat insects, thus, they take look one at the swarms around your light, lick their lips (disgregarding they have no lips, tongue, or saliva) and set up camp.

The presence of any spiders can be directly linked to the presence of insects.

17. Tonight,
go to Taco Bell. Get as many beef and bean burritos as you (and your roommates and dogs) can eat. Also get a case (maybe 2) of a cheap, light beer, such as Natural Light (the beer with the taste for uggh).

Next morning, once you open the door, turn around and let fly (as Chaucer put it) a thunderclap from your buttocks. I mean a BIG FART.

Spiders hate that.

22. Have you ever heard of Barking Spiders?
How 'bout a mouse with a Tuba?

Ever stepped on a Frog?

Spiders are sensitive creatures, with a very touchy sense of smell. The recipe I provided is guaranteed to end spider troubles. At least until they regain consciousness.

21. My house reminds me of 1313 Mockingbird Lane
Spiders and their webs freaking everywhere. I don't want to have an exterminator come to spray, because I have a bird. But, still, :scared: ... I don't like spiders.
