Ever been ribbed about your diet
By a lard ass?

"Lady, put down the Krispy Kreme. Nice and slow."

1. I find people more likely to trash someone who is slender and ....
eats a healthy diet. That's what gripes me!

2. I get that at work
I'll buy a piece of fruit and a bottle of water for my lunch and I'll hear, "You always eat healthy, don't you?" in an accusatory tone of voice. WTF?

3. When I was pregnant, the army hospital sent me to a dietician
because they felt I was gaining too much too quickly.

The dietician was easily 300 pounds and had a bowl of those little individually wrapped Snickers on her desk.

Er, ahem.

By the way, I ended up having a nine pound baby.

4. Oh don't even get me started.
I gained 55 lbs for both my pregnancies. My first doctor gave me so much shit about it that I switched practices at 7 months. I told him, I know I'm gaining weight, but I only eat healthy food, no junk, and I was borderline underweight when I got pregnant, so maybe my body is just making up the pounds. Plus I was an serious athlete in my 20's, so I know how to eat right and exercise. He got all puffed up and said, "well, missy, you'll be sorry yada yada yada." I switched doctors that day. Did some research later, turns out the 25-35 lb. that they want you to gain is a totally arbitrary amount, no basis in scientific fact at all. They just made that number up.

Oh, lost every pound and two extra for good measure, so he was wrong.

13. I gained a lot for my babies, too.
I think as long as your diet isn't totally made up of junk, it's fine. I think sometimes it can do more harm than good to obsess too much about your weight when you're pregnant. Both of my babies were big and healthy. I think some women are more prone to pack it on when they're pregnant. I had gestational diabetes the second go-around, so I ate far fewer sweets and fatty foods, and I still gained the same amount as the first time. I was lucky in that my Ob/Gyn didn't obsess about it, either. Never once mentioned my weight.

6. YES!!!!
I was eating at the local today, and ordered the fruit plate w/a dollop of tuna salad on the side, and iced tea. One local 'wit' commented, "If that's how you eat all the time, no wonder you're skinny!"

:wtf:

8. That could be a compliment!

"Skinny" isn't really a bad thing -

"Scrawny," on the other hand, would be offensive! :D

12. Ribs on a diet... Hey I'm there!
A voice from the fat crowd chiming in...

Always been heavy, ever since I was a kid. People (some people) for some reason have it in their heads that you can say the rudest things to fat people and it's excusable. After many years of being ashamed, embarrassed, and feeling generally like shit because "IF" I did lose weight, it would all come back, I finally figured that it wasn't my problem if people had a problem with fat people. The first night I struck back was a turning point. I was out with some frinds of mine, and there was a guy that was very well respected in the gay community and noted for retribution should he feel slighted in any way. Everyone also knew he was a major size queen. (If you're unsure of this meaning, as your local gay guy). Anyway, I'm standing there, minding my own damn business when this jack off, out of the blue comes over to me and says "ya know, you'd be really hot if you lost about 50 pounds". I was floored. I couldn't beleive he said that. What I said next was one of those once in a lifetime moments that will never be repeated. I said "that's a shame you think that, see when I get a hard on all this (grabbing my belly) goes tight to my dick and I have a 28 inch waist". The entire bar cracked up and he left utterly humilated.

So Tubbies and Twigs unite! There's more important things to worry about other than what we shove or don't shove into our mouths.

14. I'm dieting now
Anyone who knows me would call me thin, and by American standards today, I am. But those people haven't seen me with my shirt off.

I was only about 10 pounds overweight, and it was no big deal, but I caught hell from pot-bellied friends when I said I wanted to lose a few.

Here's my philosophy: Diet when you are ten pounds overweight. That's when it's easy (and it has been, so far).

One of those pot bellies has been on a diet all year, and still has at least 20 pounds to lose. Who's laughing now? I diet for a month now and then, and he has to diet a full year.

Staying in shape is far easier than getting in shape.
