Hazing Season Again: Seniors Beat Freshman With Bat Filled With Sand

A crowd of angry parents lambasted school officials Thursday over the Roane County High School's handling of a hazing incident involving the football team.

In the Aug. 13 incident, a small group of upperclassmen beat freshmen with a plastic bat filled with sand.

Although the freshmen did not identify their attackers to school authorities, the parents of one of the victims has transferred their son out of the school for fear of retaliation.

The upperclassmen were given two weeks in-school suspension by Principal Jody McLoud and are to miss half of the Harriman game next Saturday - a punishment meted out by football coach Vic King.

School officials' lenient handling of the incident, especially in a system that claims it maintains zero tolerance, was the buzz of the community all last week. It also has been a hot topic on Knoxville radio and TV stations.

When I was their age, suspension meant OUT of school. How does 'in-school' work?

Dunno really, Ive never really had problems with admin.

When I was in high school, in-school suspension meant you sat in a room all day, and could engage in studying, homework or sitting and staring at the wall. No talking; bathroom breaks at assigned times; bag lunch (no talking then, either). This truly was worse than out-of-school, since you could technically do whatever you want when you were suspended out of school.

However, I used to teach, and at that school, the in-school suspension monitor showed movies all day. (And -- if you accumulated 8 unserved detentions and got an in-school because of it -- serving the in-school would erase the detentions. At my high school, the previous punishment still stood.)

called "crisis", now I generally keep my mouth shut in class, and people who were sent there were generally loud mouths who got in trouble for saying stuff to the teacher.

Anyone who bullies someone else should be expelled, and if they even attempt to retaliate by menacing or threats, they should be arrested. Period. Fuck this bullshit. You want to be an asshole, do it amongst fellow douchebags in a gorilla cage. Why the hell should innocent and good kids have to grow up in fear because some non-parented coital mistake just cannot and will not be civil?

You know what makes me laugh the hell out loud? The ridiculous advice "Use your words". NEWS FLASH. Bullying asswipes DO NOT CARE ABOUT WORDS. They laugh at your "hurt feelings" and up the stupidity even more. I should know because I had to dodge these fuckos on a weekly basis and now as a parent of a kid entering fourth grade (usually when all the infantile vicitmizing shit begins), it's starting to well up again.

But what are you going to do? Can't beat the kid or the parents of their loving mistake up, because then you'll be arrested. Tell the prinicipal?? PFFFFFFFFT!! Administrators sometimes do absolutely nothing at all to these dicks because they're too busy scampering like little mice people; afraid of the big bad litigators they might have to face if god forbid they actually do their jobs and make their learning environment safe from tormenting dickheads who never got sent to therapy when they needed it.
