that's what happens when you support W.

She's still singing, sounds like she's on drugs.

4. She couldn't hear herself
Seeing as she is one of the few performers on the VMAs that actually sings live, I'm not surprised, I'm sure the monitor situation sucked and I didn't see her wearing an ear monitor.

On top of that, she was trying to sing something of hers that had been sampled into a song. Unfortunately, the music wasn't what she was used to and she couldn't seem to find the key. When you can't hear yourself, its even harder to sing on key.

I've seen her perform live a bunch of times and she's never sucked, so I'm willing to give her a pass on this one.

5. Maybe the VMA people are not used to live singing anymore ...
so they did not have the proper equipment for people who actually " can " sing ?

12. Hard to say
I'm guessing Chaka probably thought she could walk right out and nail it with no trouble. Obviously, that wasn't the case.

Too bad, 'cause Kanye West is super cool. The future of hip-hop, IMHO. His songs deal with all sorts of social and racial issues and its very interesting musically as well.

6. Christina and Nelly rocked, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and
Lenny Kravitz kicked ass, even Jessica Simpleton sang decent.

I can't forgive her for being W.'s token black entertainer.

13. I certainly can't support her decision to sing at the convention
It can be very hard to separate the artist from the art, at least for me. Since her art isn't remotely political in nature, it makes it a little easier for me to judge her singing separately from her personal activites. Of course, your mileage may vary, if you know what I mean. ;-)

At least she was appearing with Kanye West at the VMAs. He's extremely left of center. Maybe that means something.

14. It would've if she hadn't sucked.
It really matters now.

More than ever. If she supports W. she's an idiot, which is why God struck her mute tonight.

9. she's singing at the convention
"The Democrats are Tommy Lee Jones. The Republicans are Bo Derek. The Democrats are Melissa Etheridge singing the national anthem. The Republicans are Chaka Kahn singing the closing benediction."

24. you all are scaring me
:wtf:You made me look at the RNC schedule. I may have to go to a bathhouse to get the germs off. I see no indication Ms Khan is doing anything at this convention. True she did sing at the RNC in 2000, but i pray God, Buddah, Allah, and every other being in the cosmos she's come to her senses. I've been a fan of hers for years. This makes me wonder if she's joined the Jehovah's witless group with prince.

11. yes, a freeped arrangement I'm sure, like Michael Moore's
trained mike, and the Dean scream...

a few loud fucking yokels.

It makes me fucking sick...

How can anyone like rock 'n roll and be a repuke.

I knew I should refrain from watching this.

The world has gone to hell.

22. he was on a retro show praising "Rage Against the Machine"
the other day.

I personally think he is nuts.

I think the only reason Ted Nugent is a repuke is because he is rumored to be a child molestor or something so he has to go with the party of child molestors so they can get him out of scrapes.

18. "I'm Every Woman" was beautiful
Whitney covered it.

And she helped make Steve Winwood sound like he can sing on "Higher Love" (which ironically I saw Jessica Simpson butcher on some show the other night, she sounded as bad as Chaka did tonight).

It's sad that not being able to hear oneself can mess a singer up this bad, if that's what happened. They way I sing, not being able to hear myself is a blessing.

20. If you can find "Echoes of an Era"
you'll hear one of the greatest jazz recordings ever. Chaka did the vocals with Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Stanley Clarke, and Lennie White backing her. According to the album, they did it with no rehearsals....absolutely brilliant.

"Them There Eyes"
"All of Me"
"I Mean You"
"I Love You Porgy"
""A" Train"
"Hire Wire"

21. I'm a pissed partisan.
But I know she is a phenomenon.

I just googled this, found out Prince wrote "I feel for you"

I always thought she was the most beautiful woman in the Steve Winwood video...

How on God's green earth can she use that angels voice in support of the devil???
