Most incongruous thing in your town?
In mine, the Naval Museum of Alberta. Calgary is 650 miles from the sea.

1. Bush/Cheney stickers in Austin.
Talk about weird. Seeing them in the 'burbs is one thing. Seeing them downtown near the music and entertainment venues is another. I just chalk it up to Republican politicians from elsewhere, mostly.

8. It's probably ironic, but there are a lot of crazy righties here.
This is Texas North, after all.

Of course, the weirdest place I've seen Bush/Cheney stickers is on several doors at the U of C's Poli Sci department. It is bizarre to see a sticker that says 'Support President Bush and our troops - It's the Right Thing to do.

12. Ah yes, Alberta.
I keep forgetting that even Canuckistan isn't perfect.

Bleh...how any educator can support the simpleton that occupies the Oval Office is beyond me. Anyone that lacks intellectual curiosity scares the hell out of me.

6. The local cultural center.
The antelope valley is not exactly a culturally-minded place. To say the least.

Also...the tanning salons. Who needs to shell out $$$ for the opportunity to baste under lights, when the desert sun is blazing almost every day of the year? Wear big hats and slather on the sunblock to go outside, and then pay to sit under artificial lights.

10. That is genuinely bizarre.
I guess you don't get 'the right tan' in the desert heat. Idiots!

9. That we regularly lead the nation in number of murders......
But most people I know never feel threatened by that fact.

(I think it's got something to do with the fact that it's mostly people who play with guns getting shot by other people who play with guns and that there's not really a lot of random-type shootings.)

11. My neighborhood.
Quite a few Feingold/Kennedy/Kerry signs -- and even one "War is not the answer" sign -- in an otherwise puke-a-riffic county.

14. There's a place called "Rheault Farm" in the middle of the suburbs.
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 09:46 AM by northwest
It's located behind a set of strip malls, and next door to an office complex. It's only a 2 acre or so plot of land.

18. The "People Mover" which is rarely moving.
It is a sad, sad little transit system that runs through a small portion of the downtown area of Detroit. It is often not working. They opted for this instead of an honest to goodness, actually worth it for those who rely on public transit, subway system.
