Workplace network Nazis don't like my password
This morning I couldn't log in, and when I called the help desk I got transferred to the chief of the password Nazis, who informed me that my choice of "fuckbush04" was "absolutely unacceptable."

Excuse me, but aren't passwords supposed to be secret? Exactly how am I violating workplace rules with this?

Fuckers.

2. Do they check up on your passwords on a regular basis?
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 09:33 AM by pagerbear
And did this person say which part was unacceptable? The political sentiment or the language?

6. I thought passwords were to keep prying eyes from your computer.
Wonder what else they're getting into?

15. No, yes, and both.
Some asshole saw it and decided to make an issue of it. There is no company policy on passwords other than "between 8 and 20 characters, case sensitive."

16. I did, you just figured it out, and now I have to change it
:)

Actually, I now have a German password that is none too compimentary to Bush. Let those fuckers grab a dictionary.

Oh, wait, they're Nazis - they already speak German :)

8. The fuck could trigger
some nanny type filter. I know ours here at work would do so. If the issue is the Bush, then those guys suck big.

10. Speaking of filters
...I hate it when pop-ups trigger the Access Denied! screen our network security guys use to tell us we're not allowed to look at a site (or a domain or IP address).

17. The issue was both - they don't like the vulgarity, but they also said
that my password defies their rule about not displaying political affiliation at work (even though my password is supposedly SECRET). The same guy who told me that, BTW, was reading the Swifties book on our food court on Friday and makes no secret of his Repug affiliations.

11. what ancient POS network are they using that they know your password?
On any decent computer system the password is encrypted in such a way as to be irretrievable. That's why when you forget your password they reset it instead of just telling you what your password is.

14. I agree. All modern systems have SECRET passwords!
There's a serious security problem here. Your company's data system is vulnerable to Cyberterrorism.

Inform management! (Or maybe not.)

20. LOL, when I was a network admin, I'd have my minions run
a regular l0pthcrack on our master .sam file and figure out which dumbfucks were using their user id, "hello", "password", etc and make them change it.

22. If it's a fed network
I hope you are noty posting here during work. If they filter passwords, someone must be looking at where you go on the web. Misues of government equipment is serious.

24. Welcome to DU.
Thanks for the advice, it's good. My job actually requires me to surf the web, and if they got on me for posting here they'd have to can the entire office (or the entire building). My boss actually plays euchre against live opponents at his desk, through Yahoo or MSN or wherever card games are. Sad, but I don't post here all that often (although I did yesterday, LOL), so until my boss tells me differently, screw it (famous last words :) )
