1. Awwwww. This happened to me today too!!! Horrible odd whining noise

in my house when I came in. The kind that will drive you nuts and you cannot find the source. I think it was the fridge, but not sure...luckily it stopped before insanity stepped in.

It's probably a UPS system vital for keeping the entire organization's computer equipment running, and no one can is responding the alarm because they laid off all the people who knew how to handle it.

At least that's how my employer works.

had a similar problem the other day with her Enterprise Rental car...

beeping drove her nuts - she was about to call Enterprise and complain, but the service person called first and asked if she could check the car because he thought he dropped his cellphone in it when he brought her the car....

it was the cellphone
