DU'ers help me plan my trip to Toronto this weekend!!
I've had such tremendous luck asking everyone on here for suggestions and such, and I'm hoping this will be as if not more fruitful than my previous posts.

I'm heading to Toronto this weekend for my anniversary. I was last in T.O. 10 years ago when I was 13, so I have nothing to build on other than a lasting desire to return.

Ideally I would like some good healthy/vegetarian restaurants (ideally thai, indian, ect). A good romantic restaurant to hit on that special evening, and some overall suggestions on where to go and what to do....besides the basic touristy locations.

Thanks to you all in advance for any help you can offer!!!

5. Case Loma looks great!
Do you know if the TTC is safe to ride? (never been on the NY subway, but I consider the DC metro and Chicago L to be "safe") Also are there any specific areas I should avoid?

10. Henry Moore Museum?/ might just be a sculpture museum
Queen Street used to be pretty cool with all the bookstores and cool funky shops. But then I haven't been there in a while. The Wintergarden is beautiful, too. I really like Toronto.

15. Do you like jazz?
the Senator is downtown and is supposed to be a cool place to see local and national jazz. Get "Where" magzine to see what's going on. And pick up the free music mags at HMV records on Yonge Street. There's a big after hours scene there too. If you're adventurous, hed out the the "Beaches" area. It's an up and coming area with lots of interesting bars and restaurants.

14. Here are my suggestions

I'd go the the Art Gallery of Ontario. It's not too big and you cn see it in 1/2 day. For lunch head about two blocks north and go to Baldwin Street. It's in a neighborhood and not written up in tour guides. it's a block and a half of great restaruants. We ate at the Jodhpur club and had a great Indian meal. China town is close by and is quite interesting. A little west of there is the Kensington Market which is used to be a meat and vegetable market. Now it has lots of interesting second hand clothing stores. Casa Loma is very cool-we drove there so I'm not sure how close the subway gets. If you're going to use the subway more than once, buy a day pass which is also good for the streetcar and busses. If you're staying downtown, I'd highly recommend "Le Papillon" for a romantic dinner. It's a very good French restaurant (our waiter was from France.) We never had a bad meal in Toronto. I'd also recommend Marche in the BCE complex where you pick out your own meal. Not really a cafeteria but a high end place and very fun. There's also a regular restaurent in the same building called Maquerade which is excelent. We ate at the Golden Thai downtown which was fantqastic. If you need any other help, feel free to PM me.

The ROM is under major construction so there wasn't much to see there. The AGO is wonderful and has a gorgeous exhibition of Turner/Monet/Whistler works. Casa Loma is also cool.

Other highlights for us were the CN Tower, the tours of the Skydome and Air Canada Centre, lunch at Wayne Gretsky's with all his memorabilia, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a tour of the CBC studios.

Edited to add that the subway is fairly clean and efficient. And the Marche is very cool! And there are Tim Horton's EVERYWHERE.
