(does that mean I don't have to go to work tomorrow?) ;-)
We went to Publix earlier to get some things earlier. Man it was NUTS.. even down here in Boca. I BARELY got a few SMALL bags of charcoal.. luckily they had just stocked up on bottled water. (The shelves were bare where that water is but they had crates of it right up front. Limit 5, so everybody can get some)
I have never seen that place that busy. But we did okay. I am not expecting a really bad strike, but I need to be prepared in the event of losing power. (Actually I got hot dogs, charcoal, burger meat..canned veggies.. actually if our power goes our we will eat like kings :-) )...got a foam cooler and some ice, and are using the ice maker to bag up more ice. Got some batteries for out little radio and flashlight.. we already have a crap-load of candles (my girl loves em).. plus a bunch of other food we needed..
I hope we didn't forget anything..
Then there is the GAS story.. my oh my.. I had stopped at a gas station on my way home to get a Arizona tea.. and I heard them talking about that there was NO gas... so Jenn's tank was almost on E so I ventured out to go see if I could find some gas (one thing ya gotta do is have some cash on you and fill you tank before it hits) ...absolute PANDEMONIUM.. cars lined up out into the street.. regular people (who don't work at the store) out there trying to help direct traffic to get people to the pump and to get them OUT. (I waited about 15 minutes to get my gas but about 10 more waiting just to exit the parking lot.. this was after I had gone by a few gas stations that already had no gas... jeepers H. crackers!
And as of the latest discussion, the ridge to the north of Frances is not weakening as much as they had expected and the NHC site says (paraphrasing) "we are leaving the model as it is for now, but don't be surprised if we shift it farther south and west at the 5am advisory"..
Already the official forecast track is dangerously close to my house to the north, and hurricane force winds are expected here.
Good luck to all the people up and down Florida!! We'll ride this one out and hopefully we'll be alright.
:toast:
