Austin police believe a six-month-old girl survived as long as five days alone near the body of her dead father.

Asia McCoy is recovering today at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

News 8 Austin reports the infant was born in prison and her mother remains behind bars.

The baby and the body of her father were discovered Sunday night when police received a call from concerned neighbors who hadn't seen the pair for days.

The poor child was deprived of her mother by the prison system - that's the only thing I can think of that put her at risk. If her mother was home with her, this never would have happened.

Of course, I don't know what her mother is in for, but ten bucks says it was some draconian drug law offense.
