Cat Stevens became Yusef Islam after he converted to Islam and went crazy.

I just discovered this band a few months ago and have managed (through no small effort) to acquire all of their albums since then. It's hard to describe their sound (especially as it changed considerably from album to album) but they are quintessentially "hippie" music that I strongly recommend. (Especially their debut and Today). I love the Beatles and like a lot by the Youngbloods and the Grateful Dead, but figured I'd write in IABD b/c they are truly inseparable from the late-sixties/early-seventies era, while the others had success before and/or after that period.
