Little Moonbeam is giving a speech on Kerry at her school!!!
Her school's principal has decided to get the kids into this election and has allowed kids to give a one-minute blurb on the intercom in the morning about the candidate they are "supporting." Little Moonbeam and a few other kids are handling Kerry and she puts together a mini-spiel for that eacy day (she's talked about his plans for education and health care so far).

And now the principal is allowing two kids to speak at a PTA meeting in a couple of weeks and they can each give a longer speech about why they "support" their candidate (I put it in quotations because we know they can't exactly vote yet--it's like a mock campaign thing).

She was chosen to represent Kerry and another girl in fifth grade is representing bush.

The great thing is, after she gave the one-minute speech on the intercom about Kerry's plans for teachers (he's got some good stuff), teachers came to HER asking her about it! She had copies of printoffs from his website and was able to give them to the teachers who were interested.

Go Little Moonbeam!!! Recruiting votes for Kerry in the fourth grade!!!

intercom (there have been two of them) have only said along the lines of "bush will continue to keep America safe, so support bush!"

That's it.

I have to disagree about the "continue" part. Don't think we're all that safe now, but you know.....

Little Moonbeam gets specific information off the Kerry website and says she's had more adults in the building come up to her and say "um, I didn't know that...." so today she went to school with little cards that have the kerry web address on them. I wanted to print them off, but she insisted on hand writing them. So she wrote it out on 25 blank business cards. It does look cuter in her fourth grade writing.

2. I know you're very proud of Little Moonbeam

and rightly so!!!! This is a wonderful idea. I have Grands 9 and 14. Ashley 14 is into clothes and boys but, I try to get her involved in politics. Sometimes I think I give her TMI. Will try to keep it simple.

Thanks Moonbeam, you're a good Mom. Everyone one of us with children or grands should probably begin teaching politics to our kids the way we teach them other life lessons.

 for Lil Moonbeam I so proud of you lovey, keep up the good work. I trust the kids today over the adults. They are the world they are the furtue...

:bounce: :kick:  :bounce: :kick:

I was a little depressed before thanks to lil Moonbeam faith is retored.

Moonbeam and her family :grouphug:

6. What a Wonderful Experience for Little Moonbeam!!
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 08:24 AM by Jokinomx
Hats off to both her and yourself Moonbeam_Starlight.

All the successes that my Wife and I have had with our now Junior and Senior Daughters, started with showing unending support for everything they wanted to do as a child. Keeping it positive is the key. For everytime you say "no" to your child.. you HAVE to say "yes" twofold. The younger the child, the more difficult it is to do....:-)

Keep up the great parenting and when you reach the "dreaded" teen years ... you will cruise through on "cruise control".

:kick:

7. Well she's weeks away from being ten
and only two more years of elementary school, including this year, so we're getting there! :scared:

No but seriously, teenagers are my forte. I am an eighth grade teacher. I LOVE teenagers. So I'm not worried. Now Mr. Moonbeam might be a different matter--he and Little Moonbeam are WAY too much alike and they butt heads a lot. I feel like I should wear a striped shirt and a whistle around my neck!

Anyway, thanks! She's a member of Kids for Kerry, too. Ilana Wexler is her hero!

8. You love teenagers? Send advice.
I mean, I love my teenagers in a basic mother bear way, but I find the teen years quite trying. I'll take any tips.
