It is appalling how the family(including the career minded recruit) follow this joinery so relatively blithely with the example of so many other families who have reached the grave-site crying out from the news.
It is almost like a summer rerun except that you wonder which episode this is, how it will turn out, how the parents might react- finally- to the driving WH force catapulting their child into harm and then to senseless death.
But we all are those people going blandly about our business, not yet bombed, not yet bereaved, with things to do, plans to carry out, pleasures to satisfy, bills to pay. In our estimation these are all more important to the glory show which- after all- is not the life or death struggle of the World Wars or the Civil War(even then life went on). There is little awareness of the very different situation now that WE THE PEOPLE have a chance- a chance under multiple criminal assault- to direct the destiny of violence, of economy of our national values and rights. past generations had no such choice or chance or opportunity to know.
Moreso than any other generation we are letting a real power and responsibility slip through our hands because the things that matter more to us are creating an inertia manipulated by the destroyers.
It is not the soldiers, though we grieve as we bury them, but ourselves who are neglecting the only front that matters. The democracy front. The need to be informed, to vote to fight for what is true and right. Whatever disagreements any side, duped or duplicitous, might have, the loud, direct involvement of the citizens would do more to defeat the enemies of America and flush out its poisons than any bomb.
Yet it is pathetic and chilling to see how calmly people herd themselves along as if this opportunity does not even exist.
