Swedish Conservative (Against Alcohol) Found Drunk - Arrested
<snip>

THE Swedish opposition spokesman on alcohol has been arrested for violence after being found drunk in charge of a pram, public television reported.

Per Bill, a conservative lawmaker and deputy chairman of the parliamentary economics commission, was arrested as he returned to his Stockholm home after taking part in a wine-tasting event, pushing his son's pram.

"He was staggering and a couple of times he nearly got knocked over, pram and all," complained Tina Johansson, a private security worker.

She has filed a complaint against him with police, claiming he hit her when she tried to immobilise as she waited for police to arrive.

Bill spent several hours in custody before being released. He said he had drunk wine but only in reasonable quantities so that "life seemed fantastic."

2. Well, that proves his point, don'tcha see?
Alcohol is EVIL!!! He just got drunk to make a point. :7

I have to agree that life DOES seem fantastic when the appropriate amount of booze is consumed. However the next morning life DOES NOT seem that fantastic in retrospect. :hangover:

3. Yeah, gave me a nice giggle when I heard a week ago that one
Of course, in Norway we're pestered with politicians from the religious Christian People's Party being exposed for adultery and attempted rape, so we're not all nice over here, either.

Me? I'm a happy, sinning socialist! :)

4. Alcoholic or anxiety driven angst?
He is obviously a raving alcoholic. Sad in itself but certainly not incurable. So, what have been the result if he acknowledged that he had a problem, momentarily stepped down and put himself in rehab - probably nothing maybe even some sympathy...

But in true conservative fashion, what is his reaction?

Well he goes to an evening paper telling them he was not drunk - Blaming anxiety attacks due to stress, getting some professor to back up his theory.

Sad really, he was not all that bad for a conservative MP....
