I may be relatively new here but I'm a veteran on other boards and I don't understand why people would get bent out of shape about newbies asking questions like this.

I also disagree about lurking for a few weeks. I say jump right in. We need as many voices of dissent as possible.

sometimes i've taken good natured joshing for being a n00b, and gotten some not so good natured reaction for it (not here). But somewhere when i asked a question, and got some rough treatment, someone reminded the rude one that s/he too had been a n00b at one time.

people who get bent out of shape at newbies need to take a break. there's nothing wrong with answering a question politely.

Gin is THE most un-hip spirit imaginable.

There are Vodka Bars. There are Tequila Bars. There have always been Whiskey Bars.

Ever heard of a Gin Bar?

I like gin, but it's only good for two things--mixing with ginger ale and mixing with 7-up. It tastes a bit like drinking a cedar tree. But cedar trees are cool.

I also like rum, which you can mix with a lot of things.

37. Don't take DU personally.

You will, at some point, end up with a post deleted. Don't feel bad. It's not personal. Everyone makes mistakes and says things that read badly. We're human.

You will also, at some point, end up on someone's ignore list. Again, don't feel bad.

Make use of your own ignore button. If someone's posts make you just want to reach for the clue-by-four, hit the sleeping person and then you won't have to look at their inanities for a few days. This is much, much better than getting in an argument.

Don't feel bad if your posts sink like stones. This, too, is normal and not personal. Not everyone has a fabulous posting average.

if they think you're calling them a freeper. Calling another poster a freeper is like pissing on someones children, it's one of the few things that is (and should be) taken very personally on the site and it's just not acceptable. Argue with someone all you want, but if you are convinced that they are a freeper (and not just that they disagree with you), take it up with the moderator rather than just degrading what otherwise might be a good thread into name calling and deleted messages.
