A free defragger is "Diskeeper Lite". Most excellent, indeed.

The freeware anti-spyware program, "SpywareBlaster", is a must have.

Two important ones, indeed.

The best freeware system utility I know is, however, Linux. After that, you never need another system utility, spyware checker of virus program.

4. Belarc Advisor.
It takes an audit of your system and tells you all about you hardware, software, peripherals, etc. Can be very useful.

www.versiontracker.com is where you want to go....for Windows or Mac OSes

Otherwise, maybe sourceforge.net for Linux/Unix/BSD stuff
