Okay - who out there has a tattoo...
what, where and why? :)

I'm the curious type...I heard most tattoos have personal meaning(family, kids, etc) or political meaning.

1. I have one
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 02:27 PM by WindRavenX
It's the kanji for tsuru- "crane"- on my right shoulder.
It's important to me because I make chains of origami cranes for people- friends, family, atheltics, politicians (gave a string of 200 to Kerry!) for good luck and long life.
They are very beautiful creatures and have always captivated me.
I plan to get a tattoo of a wing on my other shoulder.
on edit:
The lucky properties of the crane was demonstrated by Kerry. I gave him the cranes a week before the primaries...and we all know what happened! (Sorry Dean fans).

20. Yes -
2...on the outside of each ankle. On the left, treble & bass clefs w/stars; on the right, treble clef with lines/notes & starts

Plan a 3rd in the near future (treble clef w/angel wings).

Why - if the "terra-ists" get me, I'll be easily identifiable (just a little humor there). Actually, I love music and thought they looked kinda neat. No special statement or ulterior motive. I just like 'em.

30. I have three
One on ankle - from way back when before they were popular. It's an orchid. Ex-beau and I really enjoyed certain scenes from the movie Wild Orchid. Ahhh to be that young and foolish again.....

Two - a rose embedded in barbed wire in between ta-tas. Not talking about this one.

Three - a butterfly on the small of my back. What the caterpillar sees as the end, the butterfly sees as the beginning. Got this one after having to let go of someone I cared about.

33. Mine's on my upper arm
goes all the way around.
It's full of symbols that mean something to me. There is me, two fishes (Pisces), a Moon and night sky with stars (Cancer rising), and a tree branch that starts out with leaves and then becomes barren as it goes to the underside of my arm (Taurus moon), on the underside of my arm is a wolf's face (represents the wild woman spirit, as in "Women who run with the Wolves). The outer part reflects the sunny side, the inner part reflects the shadow. Pretty deep, eh?

38. Oh I think that is a lot worse!!!! I've heard of that and it sounds
brutal. I actually got a bad case of the giggles when I got mine (it tickled under my ribs) and I kept telling him - "spelling counts, ya know." In fact, I refused to sign the waiver on the spelling issue even though they show you a stencil of it before they begin. He did the tat anyway and I love it. Oh, and people don't normally tell this, but you get the most amazing high afterward. I'm convinced that's why some people have sooooo many.

36. There was a point in my life when I was militantly anti-tattoo
I think I was 10 or 11 at the time and my mom got a tat, and I remember being so mad at her because none of my friend's mom's had one (and you all know how kids want to fit in and ditch their "embarrassing" parents) but I gave her such a hard time about it. Now I'm older and I would consider getting one if I saw something cool enough. Unfortunately my mom would never let me live it down, she wouldn't be mad at me just would bust my chops to no end so I think that is keeping me from getting it.

57. Depends on a couple things
One, your tolerance for 'sharp' pain. It's a very sharp kind of pain, like if you poked yourself with a pin or such. Some people deal well, some don't.

Two, where you are getting it. Some areas (spine, feet, underarms, neck) are more sensitive. My feet ones hurt a crapload more than the one on my back, which does cross my spine.

If you want it enough, you can deal with the pain! :)

59. Again, I laughed getting mine.
He got under my rib cage and I couldn't stop giggling. I also got some headphones and blared some music - it helped a lot. Again, major rush afterward - lasted for hours.

I think it depends on where you get the tat. I've heard feet, toes, knees and elbows are brutal. Mine is on my left hip which really wasn't bad.

I asked the guy when he was finished if the worst was over and he said, "well, it will begin to feel like rug burn and we all know what that feels like." He was right. :7
