7. Not just in LA....
I stopped for the night in Fresno several years ago on the way to Oregon and parked the car, went in to pay for the room, and when I went back, put the key in to unlock it and the car lit up. Looked up and there was a helicopter with a night sun pointed at me. Reason? Who knows. They weren't there to make sure I could see the lock okay.

But I went to bed thinking that Fresno was a lot different place than it was the last time I was there, forty years before....

9. We moved to california about 4 1/2 years ago
we drove and one of our stop overs was fresno, it was nothing like i thought, neither is much of california. I love the northern coast but most of the state sure doesnt look like it does in the movies.

17. I lived in San Franscico for awhile , too.
I had an studio on the edge of "the tenderloin" and it got kinda scary, at times, there too. I preferred it to southern CA just the same.

15. i remember walking to the 7-11 and dodging the roving light
from the helicopter when visiting my sister in Norwalk, CA. I was living in downtown Long Beach, CA , at the time, while stationed on the USS Missouri which was homeported there before it was decommissioned.

18. I often wonder about that area these days and if things have
changed much. I left about a year before the riots and I believe the there isn't any navy left in Long Beach. If your husband hates it I bet things have not changed much.

ANYWAYS I hope you are doing ok. Its 3AM here on the east coast! :hi:

8. Let us know how it turns out...you don't have a scanner, do you?
I have one, but nothing exciting ever happens.

Hope the person who was shot will be ok.

11. Lockdown and helicopters?
You must live in a nice neighborhood. I wish we had that kind of police presence here, we have a shooting at least once a week, more if there's a gang conflict going on.

Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 01:30 AM by chimpsrsmarter
Our city council has a former police officer on it and they just gave local law enforcement a huge contract, quite a scandal brewing over it.

19. One saturday morning I woke up to cops yelling
PUT THE GUN DOWN! Some weird drunk guy had a shotgun. Damn cops! Why do they have to be so protective of citizens when those citizens are trying to be lazy?! heehee I am just kidding, they did a great job of getting this guy off the streets.

21. This is one of the reasons
why we left. Hope to retire in Costa, and now people are moving to Nicaragua. I was born & raised in San Diego, that was 50 + years ago, and it was a wonderful place to grow up, just beautiful. Now, it's a mess, just like the rest of So. CA. Every Mayor we had, with the exception of Maureen O'Connor, was a crook and all of them sold out to the developers.

Heh, good luck, I know, DOA's have not been funded, it's a joke. Someone said something about a baseball bat, forget that, get an axe handle, easier to swing. Maybe this subject could be taken up in one of the other forums, like, why is our society so sick ?

Take care, Margie

22. My neighbor just told me that it is a gang drive by
2 teens, one 16 years old was grazed in the neck and a 17 year old is in the hospital, no word on where he was shot. The police have the front yard taped off and they are going through it with a metal detector thing looking for shell casings. I also found out which house it is, its literally right around the corner from me.
