Poll question: Who was best in the role of Mr. Spock....
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 03:57 AM by UdoKier
In the ill-fated 1976 "Star Trek 1976" reunion series that only aired 8 episodes, each with a different actor playing Spock?

3. This poll is...
...an experimental artwork.

Absorb and enjoy, and you may find yourself in a beanbag chair in some corner of your mind, watching "Trek '76" on that old Trinitron...

In THAT timeline, Ted Kennedy won the 1980 election, due to the scandal over Carter's having murdered that prositute...

6. Ever heard of the expression "roll with it"?
Just use your imagination and you're there.

Or not. It's up to you.

7. How could you miss Julie Newmar?
You obviously know nothing about Star Trek.

10. FOOL!
Julie Newmar played Sarek!

But only for one episode, due to her contractual obligations to appear on "Space: 1999 -1976". (a program I didn't watch because it was on at the same time as "The Honeymooners in Florida".)

18. You're the fool!
You are obviously forgetting Episode 97 in season 7,492 entitled Whoopsie, That's My Dad! wherein Spock, played by Jamie Farr, and Saurek had their bodies switched by a drunken, angry Dr. McCoy (Rip Taylor).

Every critic agreed that Julie Newmar was better than anyone else who had ever played Spock, with the exception of the intern who read Spock's lines during auditions.

The opinion was in fact held by everybody. Perhaps you're forgetting HRES 75.2 of that year, and I quote:

"Whereas - We all saw Star Trek last night and were blown the fuck away by Julie Newmar's portrayal of the Vulcan Spock.
Whereas - None of us can figure out why Jamie Farr was ever hired for the part in the first place, 'cause we all agree he sucks in the role.
Whereas - Julie Newmar is, like, way hotter than Jamie Farr.

Resolved that - Julie Newmar is the most awesome Spock ever."

So there. Don't fuck with me on my knowledge of fictional Star Trek trivia. I'll tear you up.

11. He rocked that goatee, didn't he?
Other than that, the whole atmosphere of the pilot was a bit dead, IMO.

14. Apparently, many DUers are not yet ready for this poll.
It requires suspension of disbelief, or a bit of imagination.

In that tomboy kind of way, especially when she ripped a tricorder in half with her bare hands.

21. I thought Jim Backus was the best Spock Ever
Until episode 331 where they got marooned on that deserted planet with those other 7 losers.

Well, in reality Barry Manilow was pretty good as McCoy.

23. I was really surprised by Roy Orbison's performance in the role.
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 02:39 PM by elperromagico
It showed the same depth of emotion that his best songs showed, which is odd because Spock's supposed to be so unemotional. Funny thing is, I hear he did the show mainly for money; his albums weren't selling too well at the time. But it's a great and very unexpected performance.

:wtf:
