TORONTO - Dane Squires was late for his own funeral. At least it seemed that way after people gathered Thursday at a Toronto funeral home to mourn the retired welder from Newfoundland whom they believed had been hit by a train.

Relatives of Squires were watching the casket being loaded into a hearse when his daughter Trina was told she had an important phone call.

Her father was on the other end.

"She totally, totally lost it," Squires' brother Gilbert said.

6. oh well,
it just seemed like a scene that could be straight out of a Naked Gun type of movie.

Like the scene from the movie where a man falls out of a window from several stories up and he gets up unscathed. It was a miracle and everyone was so pleasantly shocked that everything was ok - just amazing...then out of nowhere the miracle is destroyed when a random male lion jumps out of nowhere to maul him....Maybe I'm a little twisted.

7. I wonder who will be

liable for the cost incurred......

In a kind of related story myself........My Grandma on my Dads side passed away while visiting us, she was visiting us in WA state from WI. During her visit she went on a side trip to Canada and passed away while there as a result of a heart attack.

My Dad left for WI immediately upon hearing of her passing to begin funeral arrangements......The funeral was scheduled for the 7 day after her death to allow her body to clear customs......

The funeral was scheduled to begin at 1pm.......at that appointed time her body had not yet arrived from Canada but was 60 miles away in Minneapolis at the airport being cleared by custom.....the funeral home could not reschedule her service for 3 days and many relatives had to be back home by then so they just took time to celebrate her life and had the reception luncheon before the service to KILL time at about 2:30 the Hearse carrying her arrived and her body was immediately transfered w/o embalming to a casket and moved the chapel(all of this took place in one of the kitchens at the church)obviously viewing was not going to be possible......the funeral service started at a little past 3 and they proceeded to the cemetery for the graveside service.....after the public was dismissed the casket was loaded back into the Hearse taken back to the funeral home embalmed, allowed a chance for the family to view her taken back to the cemetery and buried the following day.......

This brought a better understanding to our family the slogan....and she'll probably be late for her own funeral.........she also was late for her wedding to as a result of a flat tire.......

Thought you might enjoy this....maybe you could share a story here in this thread about a funeral you attended that was a unique experience.
