Man Has 8 Children - Home Schools - Says, "Witches Are Trying To Kill Me"
<snip>

WILKES-BARRE - To hear Jake Jenkins tell it, he's battening down the hatches in a battle against evil.
As he opens the door on his Waller Street home, the sound of scraping metal and wood escapes through the cracks. He's pulling back the bars and beams that keep his family secure.

And the witches out.

"Yeah, wood and steel," he said, standing in the open doorway. "Nobody's getting in."

Jenkins, 51, and his wife spend much of their time hunkered down in their two-story home along with their eight children ranging in ages from 22 years to 1.

He said he home-schools his children.

"I'm no fool."

Wilkes-Barre Area School District Superintendent Jeff Namey said parents who home-school their children must submit an application to the district, a curriculum, and a portfolio of students' work at the end of the year.

Asked if Jenkins was registered with the district as a home-schooling parent, Namey said he didn't know but would check.

4. Witches, feh...
It's those yard gnomes you have to watch out for.

They come alive at night and watch me through the window while I sleep. Always planning and plotting and waiting patiently...

6. GOP/Wingnut Poster Boy
Another typical wingnut.

Wonder if he'd go berserk if some real witches knocked on his door and said "Boo!"

7. more....
<snip>

He told a Times Leader photographer "witches are trying to kill me." Asked why, he said, "I really don't know."

His protection against dark forces extends beyond his front door.

A tree stump in the center of his small front yard is adorned with wooden stakes: nine point skyward, and seven jut from its side along its circumference.

"It's a map of the neighborhood," Jenkins said. "Each spike points to where a witch lives.

8. The brother sounds like a real winner too

Bill Jenkins was convicted in 1998 on 10 federal charges for trading machine guns for marijuana and sentenced to 47 years. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the guns - semi-automatic weapons converted to automatic - were being sent to members of a white supremacist group, the Aryan Brotherhood, and the Dirty Dozen motorcycle gang.

MACHINE GUNS FOR MARIUANA - seriously!

9. Why are people treating him as though he's an asshole
and not a paranoid schizophrenic? He should get treatment, his kids may need to be moved for their own safety, and people shouldn't treat him as just a harmless neighborhood kook. Is his wife crazy too, or is she just an enabler? I don't mean to rant, but this man is in no position to be a good father, he's sick.

12. Lack of accountability over "home schooling" is the issue
otherwise there would be a way for the local government to intervene.

13. that's one issue
but I don't think he's just a bad parent. I think he's really sick. He sounds really convinced that there are witches all around him who are out to get him. That's beyond not being qualified to teach.

16. BS
I was wondering how long it would take to see an uninformed post about Homeschooling.

This is not an issue related to HS it is an issue of mental illness.

Inform yourself.

The local government can intervene if he is a danger to himself/children/others.

20. How would "local government" know without oversight?
Who would tell if the children were being abused? Who would know if they are learning anything? Maybe these children are being taught that the local social services agencies are agents of witchcraft?

Does a case have to get as extreme as this one before any outside agency gets involved?

What is to prevent other mentally ill parents from inflicting their psychoses on their children if the children are not required to attedn some sort of outside school or there is not some ongoing supervision of home schooling arrangements?

18. Nice line:
"No one has come to me and said we have a problem with witches on Waller Street," said police Chief Gerry Dessoye.

This guy needs to be committed. He fits the paranoid schizophrenic description to a 'T'.

:scared:

19. What's Most Alarming
Is that this guy is only using wood and steel to keep witches out.

Everybody knows that wood and steel won't keep a powerful witch from coming into his house and stealing his eight children to boil in a cauldron. Especially if there are nine witches in his neighborhood. That's a lot of devil-covenant-magick for one guy to hold off with wood and steel.

DISCLAIMER: Just kidding.

me and several of my friends were homeschooled, we turned out just fine, thank you very much. most homeschooled kids are NOT mushroom children, and most homeschooling parents aren't puritans.
