Best Buy price dropping - should I go back with the receipt?
On July 16, I bought an HP Scanjet 5550C from them for $269 - open box unit.

I was at BB yesterday and saw the price of a new one had gone down to $249.

I have a $50 rebate that I haven't used yet.)

If I were to go to BB on Monday (still within the 30 day return guarantee - or is it 14 day but I think they have a 30 day price guarantee anyway?), would I be able to get the price reduced not just down to $249 but to $224 (the price after the 10% open box discount)?

I think I could, but if they start giving me a hard time, how do I respond?

At $224 before that juicy $50 rebate kicks in, I've got a great price for a scanner originally costing $300... Or am I dreaming?

(On a positive note, amazon.com is re-shipping the misplaced order at no cost to me...)

1. The Best Buy here has a policy where if you find a product at a lower
price you can bring it back and best buy will return the difference plus 10% of that difference. You might try asking the folks at the Returns desk about that. Otherwise, Best Buy has a no questions asked return policy, so you could return it and then go buy that printer. Don't wait too long, because they will charge a restocking fee after a period of time and then won't accept it at all after a bit more time.

2. The only problem you might have
Is the fact that it's an open box. If you don't have the UPC code off the box you probably won't get the rebate.

Depending on how much of an a-hole the manager of your Best Buy wants to be, he might not price match an open box. Technically they don't have to, but he should in the interest of good customer relations.

Good Luck...

3. Good thing you've got that Tardis!
July 16th isn't for several days yet.

<grin>
