Anyone know a GOOD way to fix fallen car roof upholstery?

My Buick's interior roofing upholstery completely dropped down on me last weekend and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Another Buick that I had years ago (easily the ugliest car ever) had the same problem and I tried the old staple method which actually made it worse.

A spray adhesive? Anyone?

has used spray adhesive for an old car of ours. Worked fine.

edited to add that it was 3M contact adhesive.

Or just turn yourself upside down, that way your feet will hold up the cloth.

Duct tape holds the world together.

Or use a big staple gun. If one of those suckers doesn't do the trick, it might be time to start thinkin' replacement.

If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape.

If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.

I tried the glue thing, the staple thing even the driving with one hand holding it up thing......finally spent the $50.00 to have it replaced.

you can use small screws to hold it up. It worked for me.

and then put some "bobble" pom-pom fringe around the edge. (You know... like those sombrero decorations.)

Actually, I'd go with the 3m Adhesive stuff that folks above suggested. I've had that happen to cars in the past - when I lived in warm climes, but I did what I suggested, ripped it down and forgot it. I would've been better to try to repair it. :shrug:

Modern headliners use a foam-backed fabric glued to a cardboard form that is held against the roof. The foam outgasses, dries out, crumbles and the fabric hits your noggin.

If you don't like the look of thumbtacks (they come in colors now), you can pick up some replacement fabric and aerosol contact adhesive from Pep Boys or similar automotive supply chain and replace it yourself.

The hard part is removing the cardboard form. You will need to remove the mouldings around the doors and windows, usually held on with screws. You should put a painting tarp inside to catch the dust while you do this. Wear a paint mask and eye protection. It's a very dusty job.

Clean as much foam residue from the cardboard form as you can before spraying the adhesive. Apply the new fabric, trim and install. Invite friends so they can make rude and unhelpful comments. Surprise them by guilt-tripping them into grilling dinner. Remeber that Bush was Awol. Job done!

POSsy the Ford's headliner fell, and i hated POSsy so much that instead of doing the job "right", I just took the Arrow and had at it. the cardboard was thick enough to hold the 1/4" staples I used...
