Computer Question
Hi,
I have a compaq laptop, and it is so irritating when I put the top down to let it "sleep" I have to push the power button, let it come on, let my wall paper load, wait for a menu to load and click on my name in order to get anything done. Since I am the only user of this computer, I was wondering if anyone knew how I could change the settings so I do not have to click on the name to my own computer every time it turns on.

Does this make any sense to the techies out there in DU?

Thanks:)

You have XP. post 2 is correct procedure.

Your power settings are in the control panel if you would like to change your power settings.

2. Are you using Windows XP?
I think it's an XP thing and you can disable password access.

To remove the password from the user account:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2. Click the user account.
3. Click "Remove my password".
4. Type the password in the "Type your current password" box, and then click Remove Password.

5. Okay...Now I am getting a password prompt
when I turn it on. Since I do not have a password to begin with, I press "OK" and it seems to work. Right now, I cannot find the options that you mentioned in your post. Now the password prompt is more annoying than the welcome screen. I do not have a "remove my password" option. Should I just do a system restore to the point where it backed up last week and give up on this annoyance once and for all?

4. If you are running Win98 look in the control panel
check the settings under passwords and users. Passwords lets you choose to have all users use the same desktop and such.

Users settings pretty much only offers to add another user...

If you are using XP or 2000 there is a setting that sets it up so that the system always assumes the same person "admin, Tom, Jack" is booting up the computer... and logs you in accordingly. I think you right click on Computer... select properties... and I forget which tab it is.. you will have to look for it...
