How many people recall the 1979 air disaster in Antarctica?
I was looking at it for a writing project, and I just wanted to gauge what sort of impact it had with regular people (if any).

1. None.
I was only 3 or 4 at the time, but I haven't ever heard of it

5. Ah. Air New Zealand used to run sightseeing trips over Antarctica.
Due to an apparent computer error in poor visibility, one of the planes crashed into Mt. Erebus killing all 257 on board.

3. Did all the air get sucked into outer space or something?
Is that why we have cris-crossing contrails now?
Oooh, no I didn't go there!!!

4. In the interest of contributing to your project
I have no friggin idea what you are talking about. 1979, I graduated HS and the pope died (or was that '78?), and then another died, Iran hostages - all I really remember.

6. Air disasters seem to be pretty localized.
Each country seems to have a specific one they focus on, like Canada with the Air India bombing, Scotland with Lockerbie, and so-on.

14. Link has to be cut and pasted due to the parentheses
Not a big imposition or anything; I just mention it 'cause some people might have trouble with it.

15. Heck, I was on a HS news quiz team at the time and it rings no bells
but to be fair, there are so many plane crashes over the years as to be numbing. Here's the big list:

16. No recollection of it
Of course, I turned 18 in 1979 so I really don't remember a lot.
