THEY didn't change....We did!....My Rant!
Many times in the last 4 years I have asked my self how did this happen? I think I may have finally figured it out..... We changed ...THEY DIDN'T

For the better part of the 230 years Americans didn't THINK much about what was happening in THEIR Federal government. Today WE HAVE TO! WHY?
Americans’ were autonomous to the world at large. You grown up, get educated in a skill or profession, get married and raise your children. On Wednesday night you went bowling, Sunday you went to church and once in awhile you had a neighborhood B*B*Q. You gave very little thought to WHAT the Federal government was up to. When a neighbor was in need you tried to help!

OUR history is not one we can be proud of in many ways. The Government invaded many countries for our betterment. The CIA assassinated many rogue nation leaders; our government has a history of manipulated world events. WE just continued to run our own lives with little thought to what was happening. To a large extent what is now happening is NOT new!

American have become to dependant on government programs. In the past we looked to our family, friends, neighborhood or even Church to help when it was necessary. American’s have become too dependent on ‘government’ creating jobs. I live in Downtown Denver. I have a nice middle age man who is just ‘strange’ who lives across the hall from me. No one would ever hire him. What does he do? He shovels snow in the winter and racks leaves in the summer! No, this is not a career BUT he pays his own bills and never asks for anything. Every time I feel sorry for my health problems, and myself I look to Christopher Reeves and Roy Horn. Their lives have changes so much but they accept the hand they were dealt and go on.
The Internet has become the greatest gift and the worst nightmare. We have lost perspective on our lives. We don’t work to change the things we can control. Our personal/family lives are in havoc. We have a 50%++ divorce rate & children that are raising themselves. We have bought into the advertising hype and live way beyond our means. WHY does anyone NEED a $50k car? Why does anyone NEED to live in 3000 sq ft? Why does anyone find the enormous personal debt MOST Americans have as acceptable? Why do we NEED a BIG SCREEN TV?
Everyday we should work to fix the parts of our lives we can change. As a Buddhist, I am taught to do something nice for someone everyday. However small and it will come back 10X fold. Yesterday there was a young child lost in Downtown town Denver. I got her to the Light Rail and made sure she knew how to get home. Ask your self, when was the last time I did something nice for a stranger? When was the last time I took the time to talk to my partner or child?

Working to make the world a better place may very well start in our own backyards.
