Give the Saint Bernards the word...I'm not
going to be spending this winter in my little log cabin in the woods...without running water and a non-manual flusing toilet!!!

I bought a little condo in the next town over. It has a great heating system. At the end of October, I will close this wonderful little cabin up and move in there for the winter. No more cold feet...the dog's water bowl won't freeze overnight...someone else will plow the snow.

Now, my problem...my 6 month old puppy...she is used to having the back door open all the times so that she can come in and out at will. She has the run of the woods and is not often on a leash. The condo requires dogs to be leashed at all times. Tonight, it was cold and I closed the back door. She looked at me as if I had kicked her. I think she is going to have some adjustment problems when I move to the "Winter Palace". Any suggestions or advice? And please don't tell me that I screwed up...I know that!!! :hi:

1. take her out. She'll adapt. What will be hard is not running off and
getting lost or hurt.

2. Start training her now.
She is young, she will learn to adapt. She has to.

3. Connect the leash to something fun
My dog's previous family informed me that he would not wear a collar. He proved their point by struggling against my putting one on him for forty-five minutes.

Once I got it on him, I immediately took him for a walk. He loves going for walks, better even than food.

When we got home, I took the collar off. The next time I put the collar on him, we immediately went for another walk.

By the end of his second day with me, he was practically leaping into that collar. From there it was a small step to just leaving it on him.

I don't make him wear it all the time, but he does so contentedly whenever I need him to.

For your dog, it may be her favorite treat or her favorite game. Whatever it is, for a while, allow it only when she's on a leash.

8. [Many chuckles]
I know that problem! Many of my dog pics are just a gold blur. (Or a big pink one--he seems to think cameras need to be licked!)
