Redemption Song
BOB MARLEY - Redemption Song Lyrics
Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
---

---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.
Won't you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

4. I know
I interestingly enough though have been listening to Joe Strummer's version of it, I like Marley's better but Strummer does it surprisngly well.

7. bob marley is incredible
it kind of pisses me off that he's been made into a pop icon, in the same way some people treat che. ive seen guys stick his poster up in their dorm rooms just because hes smoking a joint, and have no fucking clue about his music. sigh...

8. Dude its like that in high school too
I debated a warmongrel who wore a Bob Marley hoodie to class once. :eyes: I don't get it and yeah Che is the same way. Marley's influence is totally not understood by the kids here, i hate to sound elitist but damnit did they listen to the lyrics. His music and Jimmy Cliff's is my favorite reggae of all time.

9. im not a reggae fan per se
i like marley's stuff, the songs just get me somehow; the only other that might be kind of reggae is wyclef jean, who i really like. i heard one girl talking about her che shirt, saying she didnt know who he was, that she just liked the shirt. god, i may not exactly agree with his politics, but i respect him enough to be disgusted at such ignorance. back to marley, when i was in HS a couple years ago, i heard one guy say, of marley, wasnt he that singer who got high all the time? i wanted to punch him, i swear

10. Yeah it "looks cool" is probably why I think alot of people do it
I am not even an intelluctual but when people do that, it offends th crap out of me. That's pretty shitty about Marley, Marley was a great singer with some of the best songs ever plus a man who loved his people and was taken away from us way too soon. Ive liked Jean, my brother likes his stuff, Jimmy Cliff is cool too, my dad got to see him and he dedicated his song "Vietnam" to those in Nam.
