Jack Daniels Lowers Alcohol Content Of "Old Number 7" (Back To 80 Proof)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is a little less potent these days.

The famed "sippin' whiskey" has lowered the alcohol content of its flagship brand, Old Number 7 Black Label.

The whiskey, distilled in Lynchburg, Tenn., now registers 80 proof (40 percent alcohol) instead of 86.

This has staggered some drinkers.

The editor of Modern Drunkard magazine, Kelly Rich, is so disillusioned he's ready to tie one on.

"I'm sure Jack is spinning in his grave," he said.

1. Too Many Local/Regional/State Regs To Keep Up With?

Kinda like all those varying city/state/county gasoline additive requirements... everyone has a special recipe and the manufacturers can't keep up with the different regs... making it more expensive for everyone in the long run.

2. It used to be 90 up until the early 90's

But at least the Single Barrel is still 94 wherever you go.

I thought it was odd dropping to 86, then I noticed after moving down here it was 80... fuck!

I still love it... been drinking it for 22 years and it never made me sick or caused bad hangovers.
