You all deserve much credit for my continuing survival, and not only mine
I know, because I have seen, that I am not the only person here with a significant proclivity towards depression, and I know, because I have seen, that I am not the only person here who has seen this tendency exacerbated in the last four years because of the Republican occupation of our government. By all rights, I should be highly medicated, on some SSRI or maybe something stronger, but I've been coping more or less. Alice comes in for the greater part of the credit, of course, but you lot can all take a bow, too. DU has been an oasis of sanity, or at least an oasis from obscurantism, fearmongering and reaction. The evil weasels stole the last election and are gearing up to try to steal this one. Everyone here is in his or her own way working to prevent them from getting away with it this time. We can be heartened by record-breaking nembers of new registered voters, a big fat middle finger to a regime that got in through lies, went to war on lies, and is trying to stay in with lies. Maybe we win this one so convincingly that they can't steal it. Maybe they steal another one. Regardless, we stand together and for as long as it takes, to take our country back from these evil swine. And for that, I thank every single one of you.

2. I agree. I had to have my SSRI dosage increased
during the run up to war. It was just too close to home for me. Since then, and becoming more active here and in real life working against the regime, I am doing much better.
I agree with you UDL... there are many, many nights when I would have been sitting up worrying about things and something or someone here made me feel better.
When it comes time to take to the streets, if the time comes this time, I will be proud to take to the streets with this bunch. And if it costs me my life, well then, I hope my daughters understand and breathe free over my grave.

3. appreciation is a wonderful thing >
I'm moving my celebration over here. "One Year Anniversary"
Not even close to being finished.

We will ALL have a big PARTY 11/3/2004!

>snip<
The Day I landed here, a fresh breeze entered my life. ... NO freepers!!

I hung out in LBN for quite some time. I was also pushing a primary candidate at the time, Howard Dean. We know what happened there..

What a fellowship, this DU. The year has provided many laughs, piss-offs and tears.

I think i would have gone nuts if there wasn't a place of sanity to turn to in these times.
Thanks for the reminder.

7. I don't think you have to wonder
Even the apolitical can work out that an unelected president nevertheless seized any number of completely insane mandates. The feeling of powerlessness is one of the chief contributors to depression.

8. Your good thoughts are much appreciated, undisclosedlocation...
For what it's worth, I'm right there with you -- especially during the past two years. Every morning has been a major struggle just to get up out of bed; every night a battle with insomnia, all utterly exacerbated by rumination over the shameless right-wing takeover.

Maybe all the deep-dish discomfort serves as the catalyst for activism (it certainly has for me). DU has been a major source of information and inspiration to this end.

We may have to be vigilant for the rest of our days, but it's a real comfort knowing that you, and many with the same convictions, are locked into this conflict with the sole purpose of prevailing over the dark side.

Hang in there, and keep punching -- :toast:

Last night I went to my local Dem party (here in Puke-heavy area) and one little old widow was sent a letter from , supposedly, someone in the military*.

The letter began:

"Dear S***head:"

It then went on for two handwritten pages about "betraying the country", Bush is the greatest president, blah, blah, blah.

We will take our country back!

(*Letter sent because she had a Kerry sign in her yard.)

15. Thanks to you too, ucl
and we will never tell anyone where you are....

This place has probably saved a lot of Repukes, too, since we'd all feel so isolated and threatened without our "support group" we might just have to torment them in heinous ways.....

I am not on any legal meds, I prefer the herbal ones, but my "dosage' has been keeping me calm and DU has been keeping me informed and cheering me because WE ARE NOT ALONE! Ain't that COOOOOOOOOL????
