What was the least necessary remake?
I'm thinking in terms of songs, but feel free to include movies or any other form of popular culture that may occur to you. No points for saying "the Bush administration," though. Most evil remake is completely different from least necessary.

After little reflection, I go with Madonna's American Pie. Runnerups include Brooks & Dunn doing My Maria and some yahoo (presumably Travis Tritt from the tribute record) doing the Eagles' Take It Easy. Can you come up with something worse?

26. I'm very puzzled
How could a shot-by-shot duplication of one of Hitchcock's best turn out to be such a crappy movie?

21. Would you believe a 1983 tv series with Ray Liotta and Scatman Crothers
as Sasha and Sam, respectively?

Hey, the two IMDbers who comment on it liked it. I'm afraid my comment would run along the lines of "Remake Casablanca?!!!!!"

Seriously...it's coming out soon. It was the only Burt Reynolds movie I have liked, and it was good in its own right. It doesn't need to be remade.

13. Yes & No
I liked Independence day far more than WOTW. The original is so poorly acted and written and it's glacially paced. So, i think that's a remake that's WAY better than the original.

I agree on Planet. The first is poor and the remake is worse.

19. Stephen King didn't like the original,
because Kubrick basically used the novel as a stepping stone - then he went and made the kind of movie he wanted to make. So the remake is the King version.

Sorry, Mr. King, but I prefer the Kubrick/Nicholson version. :D

17. The upcoming "Real Gilligan's Island"
Yes, they're going to strand seven real people on a real island (hopefully one with no real cannibals) and really hope they figure out a way to get off the island.

I really don't think I'll watch it.

Two great original movies, that became broadway plays, that are now becoming movies again. TO put it delicately, "What the fuck?!"
