What are we happy about/thankful for today?
I've been trying hard to stay out of self-pity mode, what with the quitting smoking and everything (day 20 today), but it's been hard some days.

So today I am trying to think of everything that I am thankful for in my life. Here goes:

I am thankful for my family, who love me unconditionally and always want the best for me.

I am thankful for my friends, who stand by me no matter what, and who support me through the worst times in my life.

I am thankful for my health, for the ablity to walk and run and play with my cats. :) I am thankful that my lung capacity has increased so much that I can run for 20 minutes straight, after only 3 weeks.

I am thankful that the weather has been absolutely fantastic here for over a week now. Cool temperatures, no humidity, sunshine. It's awesome!

I am thankful for DU, for this community of people who post here and love each other and give so generously of their time and expertise. I am thankful especially for the mods and admins who give their time selflessly and without pay to make sure that you and I can post here without harassment.

I am thankful that I have a job that pays my bills, a roof over my head, a car that runs, and food to eat. I know that I am fortunate to have all those things.

I am thankful for whitefish salad and good bagels. (So I guess that means I am thankful for the Jewish good food tradition :) )

What are you thankful for?

1. I'm thankful that I have enough.
Which is so much more than almost everyone in the world.

2. I'm just happy to be here...
Let's set the way back machine to June of 1968. I often wonder what possessed two intelligent, sane people to take a chance on adopting a four-day old baby. To say that my life would have been markedly different if they had not made that decision is an understatment.

I've been blessed pretty much from day one, and I'm thankful for that every day. :-)

Tomorrow is mom and dad's 41st wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary mom and dad! And thanks!:loveya:

4. I am thankful that you posted that
because I was worried about you. Glad to see you're doing better, and congratulations on your progress as a nonsmoker.

As for me, I'm thankful for my beautiful, smart, funny, talented eight-year-old daughter, and for my wife, who's not bad herself. And my cats. And my siblings. And for being here in New York, where the bagels and whitefish salad--not to mention the kasha varnyshkas and knishes--are pretty damn good.

10. Mostly for DU
It sounds funny but I was so depressed living in Wingnutville and feeling so alienated. I've met so many smart and caring people here that it absolutely amazes me. I've also bonded with some people that I otherwise never would have met (some of whom have become central figures in my life). It's comforting to know there are people out there who can think for themselves and don't buy the bullshit. People who realize that Faux news is well, faux.

I'm also thankful for medical science for allowing me to, for the most part, not even notice that I have a disease.

I'm thankful that my business continues to thrive despite Shrub's attempt to alienate us from the rest of the world. I'm glad my foreign accounts are so forgiving and that they realize that it's him, not all of America. Smart people.

And of course I'm thankful that I can pay my bills in Shrub's lousy economy and that I have a roof over my head and food to eat, especially when so many people don't.

And you'll be saying to yourself... "Hey, Self! Compared to these looney-tunes, things aren't so bad after all."
