They're the consistency of cake donuts. Bagels are supposed to be boiled first - then baked. Out here, they just bake 'em.

You would never see a nice bagels and lox spread at a Jewish household without cucumbers.

19. I'm happy with a bagel with

just plain cream cheese, but then, I'm a shiksa. We often get onion bagels, anyway, or cinnamon-raisin, so they have extra flavor that contrasts nicely with the Philly's.

:shrug:

Lox is fine by me, so's red onion, don't know about capers, tomato, or whitefish but think they'd be fine. Cucumbers are delicious but I can no longer eat them. No more cucumber sandwiches, no more gazpacho for me, alas. :-(
