Do we misuse insults nowadays?

You know. I mean when you call someone a loser in the old days it meant they were a loser. But now people call someone a loser just because they don't like them. Same with Geek. And there's a few others too.
It's like people don't know what these insults mean anymore.

but geek was sort of reclaimed by us techies. In fact, it's become rather fashionable in recent years to say someone is a geek. Certainly, there are far too many people for my tastes claiming to be geeks who are simply wannabe losers. I wasn't aware it was still being used as an insult.

Maybe you Canadian hosers are mis-using it? :-)

I don't know about the term, "geek", but when my wife (whose family tend to be on the chunky side) disparages someone on the box, for instance, as a "runt", I sharply admonish her to go and wash her mouth out with soap and water.
