Have any of you seen "Silver City?" It sounds so depressing. But, if you
saw it..did you like it? Or, did you come away disturbed? I'm "disturbed" enough...if it's too heavy I'll pass it up. ???

1. I thought it was very good.
It's heavy in a way, but some of it is also very funny. The character of the candidate for governor is totally Bush -- an ignorant tool. THe movie totally skewers Republicans, so I liked it a lot.

2. I enjoyed it!
My favorite John Sayles movie, probably--although I love "Brother from Another Planet", too. Silver City is surprisingly lighthearted and fast-paced for Sayles, but the power of the closing shot isn't hurt by this...

3. Thanks...I've never gotten a movie recommendation from DU'ers that
turned out to be a dud. I even rented "Donnie Darko" not a movie I would have ever rented on recommendations from here in the "Lounge" and thought it was interesting...and worth a view!

5. Yes. The closing shot was quite powerful.
When it was leading up to it, I just 'knew' he was going to end the movie there, and although I usually don't like movies that end that way, I thought that in this case, it really worked. (I'm speaking a bit obscurely so that I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet; I'm hoping all DUers go see it.)

4. I loved "Silver City"
Chris Cooper must have studied tapes of bush* to play the candidate character. It's a good movie: interesting, intelligent story; often funny, yet it says something serious.
