Poll question: Fashion police: What's your take on the poncho trend?

Followed a link that said "Friends don't let friends wear ponchos" to this article http://slate.com/id/2108192

I have noticed a lot of women wearing them.

7. Do you see the words up above saying DU Lounge.

Perhaps you being new to DU gives you an excuse for being oblivious to how DU works, but you still should have some manners.

Sheesh! It's the lounge! I love it when the thought police pop out on DU and tell us what we should or shouldn't post.

thanks to my ex-husband, who watched it approximately once a week. It does have some very quotable lines, though.

The ESL class' lesson still cracks me up.

30. gotta agree..
I have a very pretty wool one a friend brought back from Bangladesh and it most certainly does not look like I cut a hole in the middle of the bathroom carpet and pulled it over my head (as illustrated above).

9. My only thought is, "Wonder what she's hiding under there?"
I think they are stupid looking when worn in the summer. Serve no purpose in the summer--can understand wearing one in the winter, but in the warmer months it looks like a dumb "wanna be like everyone else" fad.

28. I wore them in the summer to avoid excess sun exposure
I like wearing skimpy clothes, but I hate exposing too much skin to the midday sun.

22. I think they are ugly and they make you look MORE pregnant
Those women wearing them on the sitcoms weren't fooling anyone.

Plus, they all look used. They get all ratty or something - they are too small for the people wearing them (my main complaint) but they also look shoddy.

I think people who are overly against any fashion trend are a bit odd. Fashion is just supposed to be fun. My ponchos are fun, so I like them

26. I friggin' hated 'em the first time around
they were ugly in the 70's and they're ugly now! EWWWWWW! I'm seeing people in the multicolored crocheted versions - with fringe - that look like the cat puked on Gramma's afghan and someone threw it over their head. YUCK!

34. Is it a sweater or a shirt? A SWEATER OR A SHIRT????????
Do you wear them outside only, and then take them off indoors, or are they like a blazer??

CONFUSION!!

I try to block them out when I see them, because I know next year no one's going to be caught dead wearing one.

Now, UGGs, oh my sweet babies....

35. they're unattractive
If you have a bust and a waist, it makes you look like you don't have a waist -- in other words, fat. The young lady in the photo, who I bet actually has a nice figure in real life or she wouldn't be a model, looks shapeless through her torso.

I haven't seen anyone wearing them since the late 60s or (maybe) early 70s and don't seriously expect to, since we don't get many cold days down here and it would hardly be worth buying for maybe a couple days of cool weather before it passes from fashion.

38. There's a picture of me in a poncho from 1977 somewhere.
My first day of Kindergarten. I have my Dorothy Hamel haircut and my rainbow poncho. :scared: When I saw them back in the stores, this was what I remembered. They should have stayed in the 70's where they belong.
