Equality 7-2521..... Socialism!!!!!! Danger Danger
More wit and wisdom from my ex-Gay ex-friend....

Equality 7-2521
political correctness and world unity VS. personal dignity and TRUE freedom of choice, speech, and religion. --- America turns to socialism --- the not-so-secret agenda of the Democratic Party

the answer to that question is not what, but rather - who.

Equality 7-2521 is the main character in Ayn Rand's novelette, Anthem. Rather than spoil the fun, may I suggest you read the book yourself. It's a fast (1 afternoon) read, a little over a hundred pages with large type.

I will add, however, that I do not agree with Ms. Rand's conclusion - it is not God-centered - but I think it is important reading none the less. Her futuristic views on the dangers of a socialist society are quite frightening, and rightly so. What's even more amazing is that the book was written in 1937!

So, if you're a thinker who's into sci-fi, politics, and ponder "what is the meaning of life" - read Anthem by Ayn Rand.

1. I heard Anthem was awful
God your friend is nutty, no offense, but how does a born again get in to Ayn Rand? Does she know that Rand has no problem with how people live their personal lives, like she wouldnt oppose abortion, restrictions on gay rights.

2. I had to read it for a Jr Hi lit class
It impressed me at the time, but on re-reading as an adult, it's a real POS. In fact, I use it *against* Objectivists to show the flaws in their reasoning.

4. I thought "Anthem" was a decent read
But I totally disagree with Ayn Rand's philosophies.

Although I can understand how someone coming of age during the age of the Bolsheviks might feel unusually hostile towards leftism.

6. Oh my god, what an awful book.
This is probably one of the worst books that I have ever read. Ayn Rand's philosophies make me want to vomit, and even if you put those aside the book is just terrible to read. Everything that happened in the book was so contrived it bordered on comical. Her other books are decently written even if the philosophy behind them is disgusting, but this book is just a heaping pile of rubbish. It is nothing but "Nonsense upon stilts" as one philosopher whose name escapes me said about something entirely unrelated. Rand needs to learn that there are some things more important than induviduality, and whether she likes it or not equality and prosperity for ALL are some of them.
