I hate my DVD re-writer
It's a Lite-On 451S and it is a wonderful machine. Writes, Rewrites and Reads almost every format.

But as soon as I write any type of DVD, I have to reboot my computer to get it to burn a CD. Now, for Windows users, this might not be significant, but my uptime right now is

terry@timestorm: /home/terry
21:31:05 $ uptime
9:31pm up 67 days 7:18, 7 users, load average: 1.04, 1.23, 1.30

Doesn't matter whether I rmmod the drive and then reinsert the modules or anything. I even have the side of my box open with a clip-on fan to assist cooling, and have literally unplugged the power supply to the drive.... doesn't make a difference.

Anyway, just wanted to complain, and happened to be here, so, oh well :)

3. Thanks - makes it dual-layer too I think
I've seen them. Don't have a windows emulator on my machine though. Saw it recquired Windows, so I didn't bother. Now, if it writes CD that flashes the BIOS, I could do that on the laptop and use the CD -- is that the case?

7. Hmm, I believe you, just don't know if I *can* flash it, using
my Linux machine. Well, I'll go download and unzip it and see what is up, thanks.

10. Well, apparently I'll have to find someone that
will let me install my drive in their Windows machine so I can flash the BIOS, because it does require the drive to be on the machine running the update, and I can't attach my internal ATAPI to my laptop

Anyway, I've asked on rec.video.dvd.tech to see if anyone has any ideas - thanks for your help.
