Teacher is accused of smuggling pot into prison via Bible
<snip>

A Syracuse schoolteacher has been accused of smuggling marijuana to her jailed husband by hiding the drugs in the binding of a Bible.

Valorie Salgado is accused of opening the binding, putting marijuana inside, regluing the binding and smuggling the book to her husband, Victor Salgado, at the Onondaga County Justice Center jail, according to Anthony Callisto, the jail’s chief custody deputy.

Valorie Salgado, 24, of Syracuse, is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in City Court.

Her husband’s a convicted murderer she met while she was in the jail as part of a school district program teaching English as a second language to inmates.

The school district suspended Valorie Salgado on Wednesday after confirming that she’d been charged, said district spokesman Neil Driscoll. She had been teaching high school students enrolled in a GED program at the district’s Sidney Johnson Vocational Center.

Investigators have found evidence that Valorie Salgado smuggled drugs in Bible bindings more than once, Callisto said. He would not say how many times investigators believe it happened.

Valorie Salgado, whose maiden name is Ludovico, was issued a ticket Oct.13 to appear in court this morning on misdemeanor charges of promoting prison contraband, criminal sale of a controlled substance, and conspiracy.

3. This is a great story
It has pathos, religion, sexual longing, sacrifice and hedonism!

4. Reminds me of some old DnB I heard once
Genesis is the book where the herb was blessed;
Every day I read the text, so I take another step.

Might've been MC Barrington Levy; I'm not sure...
