I can't get that hideous song "We Built This City" out of my head!
Last night, I was watching this show on VH1..."The 50 Most Hideous Songs Ever" or some such thing. "We Built This City" by Starship was voted number 1 in that.

Well, now I can't get it out of my head. God, what a horrid piece of crap that is. And yet....it's stuck in my head...and I can't get it out!

1. The J.S. band members hate it too. So when were they on drugs again?
Yet they willingly did it.

I think they were sober in the 1960s, and stoned in the 1980s.

11. Different drugs!
In the 60's, they had pot, acid, psilocybin, peyote, etc. Maybe a bit of opium-laced hash to calm down. And an occasional bump from that exotic White Queen of drugs (aka cocaine).

Beginning sometime in the 70's, it was coke, coke & more coke. And a bit of tequila....

3. That song came out when I was 4 years old or so (1986??)

And my mom would drive me around places while listening to the top-40 station, and I swear to God, I was scared of that song for some reason. I'd say, 'Mommy!! Mommy!!! Change the station!! I'm scared!!!"

7. Yeah...among others...
"She Bangs" by Ricky Martin

"Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Cryus (that was number 2)

"I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred (which I always kind of liked...no accounting for taste, eh? :-))

The theme from "Friends" by The Rembrandts

And that "Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm" song by Crash Test Dummies (which I hated a LOT)

8. I have bad memories of that album.
I was in 8th grade and not only was that insipid song part of it, but also the worst of all the "Sara(h)" songs. I still remember this bitchy girl (she was Lucy from the Peanuts) singing that ridiculous song just to tease me. Not too traumatic, but I was kind of awkward and it bugged me.

9. Here in the South, there is a commercial jingle
that goes "1-800-Safe Auto..." that I hate so much I leap for the remote when I recognize the beginnings of the ads. The ads are equally insipid.

Around the same time as "WBTC" the songs "Invisible Touch" by Genesis and "Danger Zone" from the Top Gun soundtrack made my life a living hell.

The latter shares an equally irritating trait with Starship's opus, namely a musical break in which chatter was added for "power remixes!" (Starship's song always featured the station that was playing it doing FM bumper schtick, and Mssr. Loggins' masterpiece had stuff like "Goose, this is Maverick, we're headin' into trouble! I feel the need, the need for speed!" Kill me now.)

21. Oh, God yes.
I hate that commercial. Almost as much as "Jackie Adaaaaaayr" from the Direct insurance commercials. "Save a lot of money when you by direct!"

16. Let's get physical, physical. Let's get physical...let's get into physical
For a song that was supposed to be sexy or whatever, the video took every ounce of sexiness and squished it beneath sweaty out of shape men bouncing around.

Plus, Olivia Newton John's voice is mostly bland.
Even while singing about getting into physical.

Sigh.

19. Damn you! I DESPISE that song. AHHHHHHHHHH

If that song comes on the radio, I can't change the station fast enough. It has always made my skin crawl, yet it was played incessantly when it first came out.
