1. Everyone that plays on defense
Should play on offense as well, Why aren't pitchers allowed to hit?

They are allowed!!
That is a common misconception!

Who would you rather have hit, though: David Ortiz or Pedro Martinez?

:)

6. What I mean is
If Pedro can go out and play defense, he should be made to play offense. If they want someone to hit instead of Pedro, then you make the sub and take Pedro out of the game. :)

2. Wrong!
The Designated Hitter Rule is a right-wing plot to destroy the American pasttime! All progressives should oppose the Designated Hitter.

I know it is a hot issue, but I think Kerry should take a firm stand on this issue, regardless of the electoral consequences. It is a matter of principle.

5. WRONG! Only Republicans are strong on defense
and accordingly, pitching!
Bringing more offense is most definitely a democratic idea!!

:silly:

18. Kerry would never oppose the DH
He is a Sox fan.

The RWers, who are much more aligned with the Corporate whores in the NL, are the ones who have tried to abolish the DH, much like they want to abolish the estate tax.

3. The DH rule is a pussy rule. Pitchers should go to bat.

8. The DH rule is not progressive. Where did anyone get that idea?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 09:54 AM by chicagojoe
I'm backing the Sox this year because I HATE the cards even more than I hate bush. I'm a CUBS fan. Generally, I consider the AL to be the "B" league. The DH rule is lame. Period.

10. I am always amazed at how people get up in arms about the DH
it's been here for 30 years, yet people who don't like it rail against it. I, for one, am quite indifferent to it. I like watching both leagues and respect the differences between them.

Those who like the DH - well, watch the AL.
Those who dislike it - well, watch the NL.

Then the WS comes, and they compromise.
Works for me.

11. LETS GET REAL PROGRESSIVE
Lets have an offense and a defense in baseball. Nine guys who hit and nine guys who play the field. Lets put in sand traps in the outfield and allow the outfielders to wear jetpacks so they can fly to catch flyballs. Let's use flourescent balls and play in blacked out stadiums. Lets let the fans vote and decide how defenders will play each batter. Lets get progressive. NOT!

Ban the sissy DH rule

Have pitchers take batting practice. Do ya think they'd have the time?

Ban artificial turf, ban domed stadiums

Each team must schedule at least 50 day games a year

NOW THAT WOULD BE PROGRESS!

15. I agree about artifical turf
that shit needs to go. No place for it. A good grounds crew can grow perfect grass anywhere.

13. Bushco*s whole strategy is staying on the offense!
Progressives favor a more balanced approach. The DH was an early example of PNAC in action.

16. The DH was done to help the less advantaged
in the hitting department. It is people like Tom Delay and Trent Lott who want to abolish the DH

19. The DH Means More Players Get Work
Therefore, it's progressive. All progressives should support all labor no matter what that labor does. A baseball player is a laborer just like anybody else.
