I mean, we won't be "underground" any more, so this place would have served its purpose. I suppose we can keep it up until the new government is seated.

I almost posted this in "ask the administrators" forum.

3. Hell no..............
just because the Chimp in Chief is gone doesn't mean that there won't be other Reslugs that don't need a good ass whipping. DU will be more important to us than ever, we still need to clean up this mess that Bush created and the Dems will need every bit of our support. DU is forever!

4. In politics, battles may be won, but the war never ends.
The born agains, the neo-cons, the rapaciously greedy military industrial complex may be forced to concede an election but they will never surrender. We will be manning and womanning the battlements of the Constitution and Bill of Rights forever.

7. DU is a great tool for monitoring the right and for promoting causes
Just because one election is over doesn't signal and end. We can use DU to work on local, state, congressional and senate races. We also need a fast and easy way to pull together people to voice outrage whenever the right does something stupid or illegal. Besides, many here feel that a lot of the members are their friends. It can be a great way for like minded people to share thoughts, events, etc.

8. Underground implies Resistance.
There will be no lack of need for loyal resistance on Nov. 3rd. The frothing right will not cease to exist on Nov. 3rd, no matter what happens. Their games, both legal and illegal, will not go away on Nov. 3rd. The problems that face the country will not dissapear on Nov. 3rd. There will be no sudden end to the need for informed vigilance on Nov. 3rd by progressive citizens.

There will still need to be a Democratic Underground on Nov. 3rd.

If only to keep John Kerry, John Edwards, the new Democratic senators and congresscritters honest and aware that there are informed, concerned and committed citizens watching them.

Remember: No Retreat, No Surrender. None. We have a country to fix.

10. I always felt that name...
was more suggestive of the brave individuals that served in "The Resistance" as in the French during WWII. "DemocraticUnderground" did not suggest any concealment per se or a willingness to hide and cower, but more of a, you know, more of a subversive, defiant, "We in the Underground are opposed to your administration and its' idiotic policies, and we are coming to kick you out!" flavor to it.

15. now I know how old Winston Churchill felt
I've been reading here a long time, and other sites like Kos, I have to equate DU with Churchill when he talked about his political career.
His life between 1929, when he lost his cabinet position, and 1939, when he became Great Britain's prime minister - a period he described as the most difficult in his life. He didn't waste his time, but mulled about and wrote several outstanding books. We have all had our "Wilderness Years" with * in the W.H.

I do feel like a besieged insurgent. They even have the Police and the SS to do their political dirty work.

19. It's only the end of the beginning when Kerry wins...............
After he wins is when the real work will begin. The republicans think that power is their right and will stop at nothing, including tearing down this great experiment in democracy, to get it back. We witnessed what they did to Clinton and I believe it will get much uglier with Kerry as President.
I was told by contacts in DC, 2 years ago, that this administration was putting its hacks in enough key positions that any new President will have a difficult time getting anything changed. The deck has already been stacked against us. Just look at the CIA this week. The minions of Goss are already purging the CIA and putting Neocons in their place. They said that they were replacing up to 90 positions.

There will always be enough in politics going on to justify a left-friendly website.
