GTA San Andreas: Dare I say best game ever?
After a good 10 hours of it, an unequivocal "yes" comes blurting out of my mouth. Get it now!

4. should be worth the wait...
The current PS2 version got a 9.6 on Gamespot (Far Cry on PC got a 9.2), so factor in PC-level graphics, control, and four to five months more development... mmm, Andreas...

2. I got it yesterday.
So far completed 5 missions, then spent the rest of the evening just driving around (I rolled my taxi). Awesome game, awesome graphics. Truly the best game I have ever played (and I barely scratched the surface!).

7. Man, the level of depth is mind-blowing. The plot and the missions
seem so much tighter than even GTA3. I thought Vice City was kind of a hodge-podge, coattails kind of thing. But I was up playing and constantly giggling until about 1:30am last night.

3. hmm
I wonder: should I get the violence-reduced translated German Version (I hope the English voices are still in) or wait another week for the UK version to get here.

5. What improvements have been made over Vice City?
I play mostly sports games, but I might check this one out.

6. Here's a small list:
Now, you must eat to survive.
The region is 5x the size of Vice City, with three metro areas: Los Santos, San Fiero, and Las Venturas (LA, San Fran & Vegas).
You must work out to increase stamina and muscle (also helps with fighting skills).
Tons of side missions and games.
Too much more to count. It's awesome. Trust me.

11. Not yet- they're locked just like the first two.
This time, it's an earthquake that has separated the three regions, but Los Santos alone is HUGE. There's freeways and everything in the city.
As far as street hoops, I haven't seen that yet, but it wouldn't surprise me. That would be awesome!

10. Improvements I see....
Less glitchy, better weather effects (including waves of heat), very cool cars, eating/working out, customized hairstyles, tattoos, 4-man drive-by's, mini dance revolution and basketball games, absolutely huge maps (it takes a half-hour to drive between metro areas), no load times when going to another city, better acting, much deeper almost theatrical missions and camera work. They obviously spent gobs of effort on this one. It's gorgeous, hilarious and an absolute blast to play. It is tougher than VC so far.

12. During one of the cut scenes, I noticed heat fumes
wafting through the air. That was pretty incredible. But just like real-life LA, no rain as of yet.

14. Wretched exclusivity contract...
.. and here I sit with my X-Box while you have your fun.

j/k

I seriously am thinking about buying a PS2 just for this game, since Vice City was so bad ass, and I am totally enamored with the GTA series.

18. Halo 2!!!
Right on..!! but hey, I wasn't considering getting rid of my X-Box, I would just keep both.

And Halo and Halo 2 are a couple of the main reasons I will *never* get rid of my X-Box.. plus the internal HD.

The X-Box is a superior machine in some aspects, not others.

I can't afford to buy a PS2 right now, but I want one bad along with GTA:SA, so maybe next paycheck. The have some decent deals on used ones down at EB in the mall.

:headbang:

Heyo

16. I think the contract is exclusive for about 6 or so months
then Rockstar can port the game to other systems

17. Wow, I think you're the first X-Box person I've seen who didn't bash PS2
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 11:50 AM by kysrsoze
Of course right below your post was that from Anaxamander. Halo 2 - blah blah blah! It's ANOTHER friggin' rehash of Doom. How can you stay that excited about FPS games for so long? After awhile, it just gets old.

What's wrong with having more than one machine? Each machine definitely has its advantages for people. I've got PS2 and Gamecube, and may get an X-Box in the spring too. How can you lose in that situation?

Why do so many X-Box people sound like White Sox fans?

20. No way..
.. I would never bash PS2, despite me having an X-Box.

And the Halo games are superb.. I mean, yeah they are just another FPS, but they are one of the very best friggen' FPSs I have ever played!

I love my X-Box, but I really want a PS2 also. To really have freedom to enjoy ALL of the really fantastic games they have out lately, you need both really.

Expensive has hell, but the consoles are coming down in price, and yeah some games are 60 bucks.. but MAN what a game you get for 60 bucks, with some of these new games that are out...

Considering the amount of enjoyment you get out of say, GTA:San Andreas (which I have not played yet BTW) or Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, or any of the better games, the cost is really pennies per hour of true enjoyment.

(The new Syphon Filter is another reason I want a PS2, and I know that will probably NEVER come out for X-Box)

I'd love to have a Gamecube as well, and go for the trifecta, but that would just cost more cash than I can swing right now... someday though.

Heyo

19. Well, with the new PS2 out, the "old" one should be cheap used
On the other hand I really consider buying a small one - no fans sounding like a Jet during take-off is a good argument.
