I'm addicted to this damn site. Why did I ever wander over here?
I keep running back for the latest opinion from some member of the DU crowd. And I frequently can't resist sharing an opinion of my own, like this one.

I have a confession to make, though. I supported the invasion of Iraq.

Why? Because I believed George Bush when he stood up in front of the country and told us that Saddam recently tried to buy yellow cake from Niger.

Don't get me wrong... after witnessing him stealing an election I couldn't really say I had a whole lot of trust in his word... but he mentioned the British, you see, and then in the following days the British didn't deny the account... so I was convinced there was a strong chance Bush was telling the truth on that score, and I didn't think this country should be running the risk of Saddam having nukes.
Bush wouldn't lie about something as serious as nuclear weapons, would he? The country would be OUTRAGED if his lie was exposed.

Well, my wife said I was a damn fool. That he was lying. I disagreed with my wife... "Not on this," I said. "He wouldn't dare. This country would skin that liar alive."

Well, it turns out I was pretty wrong on that, too. Only HALF the country wants him punished.

At the very least, I thought, if it turns out that Saddam had no WMD programs, we could at least feel good about getting rid of him for the Iraqis, who would welcome us with open arms.

Well, are you getting the pattern here? I was a damn fool. He lied about that, too.

Well, he's fooled me twice, but I won't be fooled again. He's an evil, evil person, and I am ashamed and furious that I ever trusted that scumbag.

Having bored you all with all of that, let me say that I don't know what I'm going to do with myself if Kerry does not win this election. I'm going to have to go into therapy or something.

To quote the Master of Disaster, GWB himself. Dude, I feel ya. I really do. Even though I never bought it, never approved ... that was ONLY because by that time I had been clued by friends in DoD that this was bullshit.

I predict if Bush is re-elected, he will have to eventually deal with a mutiny. The word is out. The brotherhood is pissed.

6. Don't feel bad dear, I think Kerry did too at first
I didn't exactly support the war. All I kept thinking was "You better find those damn WMDs. You do NOT have a blank check dated 9/11." Damned if that isn't exactly what Bush thought he had.

So we all lived and learned.

I know, I'm addicted too. (thumps arm) But hey, I can stop anytime. Really. (haunted look)

Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:50 AM by StlMo

There is a chance that everyone will be fooled by a liar like Bush at some point.

The key is learning from one's mistakes.

We must - and we will - drive that evil criminal from the White House, even if it takes every last drop of our energy.

8. Talk about addiction
I found DU about 6 weeks ago, and I have over 600 posts already. I feel like a junkie, but so glad I finally found this place. Rex, don't feel bad, a lot of people supported the war. At least you've seen the truth since then. An awful lot of people seemed determined to believe anything that comes out of that asshat's mouth.

And according to the lastest Bush excuse, we can now invade any country who even thought about producing WMD. This isn't the country I grew up loving. No due process, torture and lack of respect for the UN, profits over human rights.
God, I am sick of this and I want my country back.

10. Hello! Don't feel bad about having believed Bush
After all, as Michael Moore says, "You're SUPPOSED to believe your commander in chief! ... All of us should be able to believe whatever comes out of our president's mouth. If we can't have that - at the very least THAT - then what are we left with?"

However, as Bush has attempted to say, and you did in fact say (more eloquently of course), "There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again."

NEVER AGAIN, Mr. Bush.

11. The true Democrat
Democracy is a set of beliefs, but also a process of enlightenment. Only those who come to the conclusion that they have responsibility to others around them and that every belief they have may be in fact wrong in light of new information through their own fruition will be true democrats (spelled as such). These people have a set of values that go beyond basic applied ethics/issue politics. Reasoning and self-realization are critical to this process. You cannot sell morality or understanding, or even give it away. It must be forged in everyone's mind on their own behalf. You must make the choice to consider these principles, but you must also figure them out by yourself without somebody whispering hints and suggestions in your ears.

12. LOL! I'm becoming addicted to DU too! And if Kerry is not elected,
I might need therapy. How many people tried to believe Bush, even when we knew he was a liar? And the media supported his lies every bit of the way. You married a very intelligent woman!

I thought the war was a very poor decision, but didn't ever believe that it would be a disaster.

I started logging on to DU during the debates, because of the great polling site media organization. I was up until the wee hours, hitting all of the polls with a vengeance. I had read a few articles by democratic underground when I did searches on Halliburton, war profiteering, etc., but didn't really know what it was. It is a great place.

13. Me 2
I am addicted here to. I don't know why, but I only 1 more week and I don't have to come here until the mid terms. But it is like a drug, intimately invlovled. Also, as a journalist (sports writer) I find how the blogs tackled stories and use their collective brains to destroy the regualr media as astounding. It is not that the media is lazy or schilling, but they don't have the resources that hundreds of bloggers have or the mindpower. Really is humbling to watch how Drudge and freepers spinned the explosives story, and how TPM and DU rebutted them and destroyed their stories. All this happens in some kind of shadow war. It is boring all of u i bet, but I find it incredibly intersting.

21. Uh Oh......I guess I'm addicted too!!!
I should be in bed! Came here first after hearing someone mention the site on Air America (can only get it on my computer). Same as someone else said, started to frequent here during the debates. Now I find what little time I have on the computer I spend here. I heard (as I'm sure you know) Elizabeth Edwards reads this site, mentioned it on C-SPAN which is where I seem to spend much of my other time!).

MOST IMPORTANT...your comment about needing therapy if the worst happens. I am serious!!!! I have wrapped my life around this so much, working for Kerry and against Bush, I will have a breakdown! Don't even want to consider the possibility!!!!

25. I hate to think of the possibility either....
I have never felt so strongly about an election. I hate, detest liers, and this entire administration is more about lying than truth. Until the debates, I didn't dislike Kerry, but I was mainly ABB. Now, I think he is awesome, and I can't imagine 50% of the people voting could not see the stark contrast. Intelligence, clarity, ethics, compassion, service? He has it all.

But win or lose, we addicts can log on to DU and rejoice or weep!

62. I can't take credit I lifted it from David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good
There was no promise made, the part you've played, the chance you took
There are no boundaries set, the time and yet you waste it still

So it slips through your hands like grains of sand, you watch it go
There's no time to be lost, you'll pay the cost so get it right
There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good

And never was there an answer, there an answer
Not without listening, without seeing

There are no answers here, when you look out you don't see in
There was no promise made, the part you've played, the chance you took
There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good

Lyrics David Gilmour

I get in bed at 10:00P.M. ,so that gives me 6 hours sleep ,however I really should sleep a full 8 hours ,like the topic of this post Iam addicted to this site and to watching whats going on with this most important of elections. Iam begging everyone to do everything they can to insure a Kerry victory ,at 47 years old and a life long Dem. Iam going to my first politicial rally this coming Friday,. Its a pro Kerry rally held at a busy intersection in the town I live in .On one side of the street there are bush supporters showing their ignorance and on the other side are the people who support Kerry, to me the Kerry supporters are the Americans with their eyes and ears wide open , oh ya and we are much smarter also .I mean imagine being fooled by an idiot like bush ,they should be ashamed on them selves . They had a rally their last weekend , however I was unaware of it .The young girl in charge of the Kerry rally ,only 21 and her frist time voing ,told me in a email the bush supporters where very rude , old ladies for bush yelling at the young girls on the Kerry side ,some of them only 17 (Kerry supporters) The old hags on bushes side dont know anything about any issuses ,so the just yell insults at the Kerry supporters !

I bought a baby doll and cut its feet off and put tape over the "stumps" and painted red. Then marched with a sign that read, "A gift from the U.S.A."

Never trusted him--not from the moment he began his presidential run.

Being able to say "I told you so" is cold comfort.

Also addicted, especially living in a small town in the deep South 'cause like another poster wrote it gives me comfort to be with and talk to like-minded folks.

64. Buying the doll was very poignant
As I am the mother of grown-up daughters I was thinking of the last time (some years ago) that I bought a doll. I also could help thinking of the little girls in Iraq who wouldn't have an arm to cradle their dolls, who wouldn't ever get a new dolly because my country, my president was giving them a grave instead--although the doll was meant to symbolize Iraqi babies and children themselves rather than their toys.

It's the only way to start my day! You're not alone in your addiction. After the election maybe we can all start a DU 12 step program. ;) This is where I get my political info. It's an endless source of reliable information and DU is usually DAYS ahead of the mainstream media. I love that.

You aren't the only citizen to believe the idiot-in-chief in his march to invade. I wasn't one of them, but many people actually trusted that asshole. I knew the day the SCOTUS selected the asshole to be prez that we would invade Iraq. I KNEW it. You have, at least, seen the light! Unlike a lot of freepers who still stand with him.

My husband told me that the chimp would pay for what he has done. He says, "This country is FULL of heroes who will never let him get away with this. He will pay. The TRUTH WILL come out." The chimp will go down and Kerry WILL investigate this regime. Eventually we will see them pay for what they have done.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

I did some research on the net, and there is information on Internet Addiction ... loss of good judgement, typically people who also suffer from anxiety/depression already. Many times it involves gambling or porn, also chat rooms are addictive. Mine was pretty much DU and other liberal sites, and spreading the word with yahoo email.

Now I have internet at home, and I'm trying to start a business. I always hated having to be "in the workforce" anyway; well, not always, but for quite some time now, even well before the 'net problems.

45. I admire a man that can admit when he's wrong...
even if he was right on in how he managed it.

Your wife will know what to do, in the event Kerry doesn't win. That event is seeming less and less likely.

47. Learn to trust your wife...
...she seems to have more 'common sense'. Take her out to dinner, buy roses and pay attention from now on.

- Ten years of sanctions and satellites orbiting overhead watching Iraq's every move and you think Saddam was a danger?

61. Right on re the wife part - -
That reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from Thelma and Louise, where Thelma has the cop at gunpoint. He whimpers that he has a wife and kids, and she advises him, "You be sweet to your wife. My husband wasn't sweet to me and look how I turned out."

It's hilarious, if you haven't seen it, tho the movie as a whole is anything but hilarious (one of my all-time favorites, tho).

51. I didn't believe them until
Powell went before the UN and laid out a long list of things that were supposed to be in place and the threat it could further do to us right after the 9/11 attack. Within 2 weeks of the invasion I quickly realized how we were duped into this and to say I was saddened and outraged is an understatement. From that point on I have been speaking with as many people as I can to set them straight on the endless lies and acts this administration have committed on the innocent.

The greatest learning lesson out of all of this for me is, I will never put that much trust into any government official again. It's the patriotic duty of all of us to question any government official dealing with anything concerning the future of our country and livelihood.

52. Welcome Rex
And all the other new addicts. May we all be bolstered by the fact that a couple more states dropped into the "too close to call" category. For a few days now they have been showing Kerry only about 30 electoral votes needed to lock this thing up.

May the force be with him. Let's save America!

56. I know exactly what you mean.
I don't have many posts but have been lurking here for over 2 years. I can't get anything else done, I spend more time here than doing what I should be doing. I just hope Kerry wins so I can have a more balanced life.

I think many of us would be driven to even more insane levels of activism should the impossible happen.

As it is, though, I forsee a safe Kerry victory.
