really I do. But do we really have to post this woman's pic up here and make fun of her because of the way she looks? She's on our side. Suppose she was to see this thread? How would that make her feel about her fellow Kerry supporters?

She looks like the kind of person who would either not give a crap what we think or maybe have a laugh along with us (or maybe beat the crap out of us). In any case she clearly understands what is important right now and stupid jokes on one of the internets aren't going to make any difference. :)

We've got all the trendy faux liberal suburban kids over in the other thread defending Eminem - a dumb, knuckledragging, homophobic, racist corporate fuckwad. I'm sure none of the country stars are as blatantly bigoted as "Em". And at least if they are, they don't try to pretend.

I was working the Kerry booth at the AZ State Fair. I had parked my car and was heading across the street toward the gate. I was wearing my Kerry buttons. There was a couple at the light waiting to cross as well. They both were dressed similarly to the woman in the picture. I thought, oh no they must be Bushies. They nodded at me and we crossed the street. Sometime later they stopped by the booth and asked for early voting info, buttons, and bumper stickers. They chatted with us volunteers at the booth for a while, telling us how they'd stood at the Flagstaff rally for hours waiting for Kerry. Guess it goes to show ya can't judge a book by it's cover.

That is a very stereotypical thing to suppose. I like Alan Jackson, many of his songs support Democratic viewpoints too, listen to "The Little Man".

I don't think playing off of the negative stereotype of the ignorant, unkempt redneck was a good thing. I hope it was done in humor, but many people are sensitive, and this might not have been the best thing to do. It's all right though. I forgive you.

and often in the case of us dems, we often don't fit a pretty 'mold'. In fact our willingness to embrace all those willing to participate in reasoned and thoughtful discussion, is what sets us apart from freepers. Don't cross that line into the dark side, because you may not be able to return.

Out canvassing on Sunday and got tired at the end of my assigned route.

Came across a house with a GIANT SUV in the driveway, with a license plate that showed a vicious looking eagle with a flag in its mouth. On the lawn: signs saying "9/11 - Never Forget!!" Lots of "Jesus saves" etc. stickers in the window.

Gave it a pass.

The owner came out and announced to us that he was a registered Republican and didn't vote for Democrats, but he was going to start now, and he wanted a Kerry/Edwards lawn sign because he was "fed up" with Bush. He stucke the sign on his lawn and went inside.

This kind of thing happened again and again that day. My "snap judgements" were proved wrong. I found out that lots of folks who like country music, live & die by the Philadelphia Eagles, love Jesus, think the Pope is a great man, have a son/daughter in Iraq, live in rich neighborhoods, drive SUVs or smoke/drink/cuss are with us on this one.

I stopped at a small convenience store in a semi-rural area a few days ago because I was out of smokes. Woman behind the counter was an older working-class Southern type, in her late fifties or early sixties...and she starts talking to me about Fahrenheit 911 and what an evil bastard Bush is. I was surprised, I admit, but it just goes to show that stereotypes are what the lazy and ignorant use as substitutes for thinking.
