I feel a LOT better about my church now
i had not been to my home church (im in college) for quite a while, and i had a chance to go this morning. well, i have to say, i am very relieved. today was a celebration of the reformation (im lutheran) and the sermon was about how many churches are turning to phariseeism, i.e., putting too much into laws and rules. in particular, my pastor commented on the pointless stupidity of issue 1 (in ohio, a gay marraige-banning amendment), and how these fundamentalists are straying from the actual teachings jesus in order to stick to rules. he said jesus himself bent and broke many many rules to help people, and we should continue to do so. why cant we have more religious leaders like him, and no fucking jerry falwels???

2. Evangelical Lutheran, huh?
That's where I go, too. Their employee healthcare plan pays for abortion, the local Lutheran high school teaches evolution, and they accept and even ordain gays.

The main reason I started going there, though, is because in two years I have heard them mention the word "hell" exactly once, and that was quoting St. Augustine. Totally mellow, and totally liberal, at least the pastors.

Good luck to you!
