Their site, especially the general discussion forums, has become a FreeRepublic Lite. They make a huge fuss over DU because apparently we rape the 1st Amendment by deleting threads we don't agree with (even though DU openly says it's a privately owned meeting place for DEMOCRATS...but that doesn't matter to them), and they're a model of tolerance and democracy. But to be sure, the right only cares about the 1st Amendment when they can put together creative ways of accusing Dems of attacking it.
I stayed mostly in the technical forums for awhile (and yes, they are very good) but one day made the mistake of perusing the general discussion section. Although not as outwardly hateful as FR (and, to be fair, they've stepped up moderating on particularly empty and divisive threads) it's another outlet for incorregible right-wingers: a model of free speach if you buy their agenda to the letter. It's a waste of time to give any arguments defending Kerry or basically any left wing issue... like "The Constitution." Since they feel JK is the anti-gun candidate they grant a free pass to bash the hell out of him (and any Democrat; why bother checking their records, they're all anti-gun, right?) and a mandate to defend any and all things W says, regardless of how ridiculous they may be. After a few weeks of nimbly parrying their rhetoric only to be dogpiled by dozens of demanding Freeptards, I gave up and left.
And btw, does anyone know of any good shooting forums that are (get ready for this) actually about the shooting sports and NOT right-wing politics? I'd love to find an open lefty forum but maybe that's asking too much. If I could afford the bandwidth I'd start one myself: www.southpawshooters.com sound good?
