33. Vueve Cliquot has
a really great Rose bottle. It's a little more pricey, around the 55-60$ range, but as I have one that was given to me as a gift, I'm bringing it tonight to the election party I'm going to. Hopefully I will be able to pop the cork tonight! :)

Aroma: Very delicate with aromas of flowers, hazelnuts and biscuits.

Palate: Soft with a fruity finish evocative of peaches.

Food Pairing: Particularly suitable as an apértif wine, White Star can be served with cheese-based entrées as well as with oysters or fish.

10. do you prefer sweet or dry?
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 02:32 PM by helnwhls
and is there a trader joe's near you. I always find the best champagne prices at TJ's.

If sweet is your preference, Wilson Creek Winery and Vineyards put out a delicous almond champagne that I could drink by the case. It usually retails around $15.

If you prefer a crisp dry champagne, Moet & Chandon is usually reasonable, even at the grocery store. Moet & Chandon always delivers a good quality product and a range of prices.

Enjoy!

25. I'll echo that
It's remarkably drinkable for that price, and you can invite friends over to share the celebration at that price!

There are pricey niche champagnes from France that are better, and there are others that are like carbonated vinegar, and there's no way to tell the difference without knowing the vintner specifically. Freixenet's quality is reliable and you can't beat the price.

32. Gruet if you want
domestic - French wine maker in Albequrque NM.
Really tasty and you can get 2 bottles for $30.
Also domestic:
Pacific Echo - $18 the bottle (joint venture with Veuve Cliquot)
Gloria Ferrer - $? joint venture with Frexinet
Otherwise - Go for the Veuve Cliquot orange label. Can't go wrong but you will spend $30 for a bottle

51. Tried one of those last weekend...
Way too pricey.... It wasn't really champagne. It's a carbonated white wine. It was one of those things I'll try once, but probably won't try again.

Me.... I have a bottle of White Star waiting for me and my husband (Whom I met on DU!).

40. If you only want to spend $30, there is a better alternative to
French champagne.

Since it is not made in Champagne region in France, it is technically a sparkling wine but the producer is one of big champagne house in France, which produce very expensive champagne 'Cristal'. I love their rose.

Ok, the producer's name is Rodeder. ( my spelling may be off.)
Just ask them you want California sparkling wine produced by the company which makes 'Cristal'.

When I was a carefree single career woman during Clinton era, I got into Champagne. I drunk over dozen different expensive ones plus another dozen cheaper one. I have not drunk any champagne since my wedding. Now, I am a struggling working mother under Bush.

However, you gave me a good idea. Maybe I should bet some money on Kerry win by buying a good Champagne.

'Extra Dry' is actually somewhat fruity ... not what I liked in methode champenois wines (when I drank). When I wanted sweet, I went for a good trockenbeerenauslese - excellent for dessert.
