I have to teach an 8:00 AM class, and I'm too heartsick to think....

I wonder how many of those young men and women will be involuntarily in uniform before the next election, how many will be dead, how many maimed?

I want to go back to bed and pull the covers over my head.

I never understood how you guys could stand up there day after day and pay attention no matter what was happening in your personal lives... while I, sitting in a chair in front of you, could not.

I'm getting pretty damned close to not being able to do it anymore. It's been a rugged year for me, and last night just iced the cake. I'm sitting here staring at my lecture notes, wondering why in the hell I'm still doing this.

I don't have as early a class, but then again I did not sleep at all last night. Don't forget no deferments for college students this time around.

It's going to be hard. I feel the same way--my students are just waking up to the issues, and I don't want to see them killed before they get there.

...luckily, I have no classes to teach today. I don't feel good about facing my classes tomorrow. Many told me they were not voting and I was compelled to beseech them to read up and vote. That moment, which happened last week, really hit home this morning. How many other professors at other colleges tried to get their students to vote? I just don't know, because it looks like they didn't.

Yes, the draft is coming. And we will be back to riots in the streets and more division than I am feeling now.

The covers over the head doesn't help, but for the life of me, I don't know what will help. Something to consider, especially when the best minds of this country -- intelligent men and women writers -- almost all supported Kerry and a change. If they cannot get through this "t.v. wall," what will?

Except that because I work at an institution where fully half of the student body consists of immigrants, I have to wonder how many of them are "disappeared" or sent back to the evil regimes they fled (who are among the Bushies best friends) because they're too pigmented or pray to the wrong deity.
