Update on Richard the Cat
Yesterday I mentioned that one of our cats is ill, but gave no details. There aren't many to give. We don't know what's wrong with him other than this: he has an undiagnosed mass in his liver, and since last week has been feverish, lethargic, walking funny, eating little.

Next week we're taking him in for an ultrasound. We were given three estimates: one for the ultrasound and two for surgical procedures -- $900 and $1200. It kills us but we just can't spend that much money. It kills us.

There may be bigger fish to fry in the universe right now, but I don't care. I want my boy to be well.

2. Oh, I'm so sorry.....
Last night two of my dogs cuddled next to me and helped me get through the awful, long night. I understand how important these guys are to us.

Prayers for Richard.

4. Bertha, I know of what you speak
Our little doxie is suffering from cancer in the bladder. The tissue is now blocking the neck of the bladder and he took a turn for the worse over the weekend. He's been at the emergency clinic since monday night. The ultra sound confirmed the mass, the aspirate (biopsy) should be back tomorrow, which the vets all feel will confirm the diagnosis. Only thing they can do is chemotherapy. And it is very, very expensive. Up to this point, we've already put out of $1,000 and the chemo is $500.00 a dose. But it's worth to us to give our little guy a chance to live, if he can. Vet says we'll know after the first dose, if it is helping. But he's been through so much and the side effects aren't very good, either.

I will pray for your little kitty and wish you the best!

7. Thank you all. I know threads like these are frequent, and
everyone's animals suffer when their time comes. But I always try to read all these threads and I know a lot of you do, too. So I really appreciate your goodwill, prayers, and wishes. Re: paypal, thanks for the suggestion but no. If this is Richard's time, we can't make him suffer by attempting heroics. If it's not his time, this will turn out to be not too serious and we'll get him through it. Meantime, anyone who would give to such a fund for Richard, please instead consider making a donation to the ASPCA or to http://www.modestneeds.org.

8. check with IMOM
http://imom.org/

They have a process where they help pets in need. It can't hurt to fill in the application.

10. I'm so sorry......
Have you looked around at other vets? A couple of years ago, one of our cats was in bad shape (UT stones), and I ended up taking him to a clinic in Takoma Park, MD.

They sent us to another clinic on GA Ave in the Petworth area of DC, because we couldn't afford to have the work done; and this clinic performed the procedure at a fraction of the usual cost. It was definitely a no-frills environment; but the staff was so caring...

I hope things look up, Bertha.
